Citeh away. It's fair to say that there was optimism flowing through the squad and that flow was felt very much through the hearts of Spurs fans all over the country. We travelled up there with words of title aspirations; when a similar thing was said last year it came at a time we were sitting in fifth with the very team we played today always looking out of arms reach. A string of disappointing home results soon dashed any vague one man voice of talk of the title and with it ended our goal of finishing in the top 4 as well.

After we fell foul of a 5-1 drubbing by City at the Lane this was the game that we couldn't even begin to dread any more so. Did we really have to play them twice? With Luka seemingly uneasy at the colour of the top he was playing in and with no holding midfielder or forward in, how were we ever going to break back into the Holy Grail of the top 4 positions?

But the beauty of football is things change. Even the most optimistic of fans could hardly have pictured since the City game that we'd only lose one more game in 2011 and go on a run that pitted us 10 points ahead of Arsenal and 4 ahead of Chelsea in third. 3rd spot, back then, was delusional. Now, I hear whispers that we wouldn't take 4th if it was offered now. There's still just under another half of the season to go, but I'd take 4th if it was offered, not that we get that privilege anyway.

We started more comfortable than City. We soaked up the occasion as the home side seemed to begin with trembly knees. We kept possession well without creating too much and, in all, I was satisfied with our performance in the first half. We'd given a good account of ourselves on a pitch where no side had turned up and taken anything. For the 1st City goal the movement from N*sri was exemplary. Although, it was almost scary how easy our defence just seemed to be carved open. Knife through butter stuff. No matter how well Spurs are doing you can never rest when we're facing a corner. It's not our nature. Walker leaving Lescott and suddenly not 15 minutes into the second half we find ourselves two behind. Sh*t.

Ahh, that's more than a kick in the bollocks. This left us with a dilemma. Do we stick numbers behind the ball for damage limitation or do we do what Spurs and 'Arry love to do and have a go? Ironically, as great as our football has been, Kaboul's long ball over the top to Jermain was inch perfect. Savic was indecisive and, before City's owners had finished their glass of Perrier-Jouer we were back in it.

The goal brought with it a flood of optimism. Defoe looked incredibly sharp the entire game. He lead the line well and wasn't afraid to get stuck in. He exploited the Savic mistake and Hart's indecision to give us what our play had warranted. We never looked back since pulling one back and fully deserved to go level not long after. Bale was far to individual and didn't look a team player. His performance was poor and yet with one sweet strike he's put us level. It's what the best players do.

At 2-2 I was more than content. We'd taken the game to Manchester City and made them look incredibly ordinary. The City fans felt their knees starting to tremble. The Spurs fans couldn't stop singing. The game showed the mental strength we have in our squad to battle back as we did. It's unfortunate that we couldn't take one ~~golden~~ platinum opportunity before handing City a gift. It was unusual for Ledley to be so rash to go to the floor as he did. For a player that has been so consistent in the years he's battled through each game for Spurs, a rare error of judgement can be easily forgiven. The player who rolled in the penalty should've been sat in the stands suited up and waiting for the final whistle.

We should take more positives than negatives today. We had the best team in the country on the back foot for large spells. We had the mental resilience to not let the ghost of the 5-1 hammering striker fear into the side and just kept playing our game.

Parker also took a sore head.

When's this karma thing going to work in our favour?

Time For A Fresh Change?

So we've entered 2012 as London's top club. For the first time in a long time, a very long time, we are the side that Chelsea and Arsenal are looking to catch. We're the one's being chased. The top two Manchester Clubs are, at this moment, just out of arms reach; hopefully we can keep stretching. Will we catch them? It'll be an interesting season.

Even the most optimistic of you would've struggled to envisage us sitting 3 points clear in third and 6 points off of the Holy Grail of top spot in the Premier League with a game in hand after the first two games of the season. In fact, according to @OptaJoe, (Part of the OptaSports team) Spurs had more points this season after 17 league games than the league leaders (37) had at the same stage in 2010/2011.

On reflection, a point away at Swansea was what was deserved. We weren't as sharp as we'd been in recent weeks and, I know I estimate I'm probably the seven millionth person to say this, but Swansea have been incredibly solid at home and play some wonderful stuff. It was like watching Spurs v Spurs in a way. Either half the squad pigged out on Christmas day left overs prior to the trip to Wales or they were just running tired- much like myself after 10 minutes on a treadmill. After a busy Christmas period and West Brom to face tomorrow, freshening up the squad should be an option.

@WindyCoys made a god point of shifting Kaboul to RB, with Daws and King coming in at CB and possibly playing Rose at LB. I'd also stick Lennon back on the right, Sandro and Modric in CM and Niko out left. Defoe and Ade up front for me. Assuming that such players are all fit that is. This isn't underestimating West Brom. This is exploiting our squad size and saving the players from potential injury and fatigue. We have an incredibly hard run of fixtures from the end of January through to March that could shape our season and have a big impetus on where we finish.

I'll go Spurs 2-0 West Brom.

So January's upon us, what about Podolski?

I love and hate the January window. The excitement of bringing in the next best thing all month usually ends up resulting in someone not quite there. Ahem, Rasiak. I also paused to think back at how he ever ended up in a Spurs shirt. Bloody 'ell. I don't think we've ever seen a season go by when we haven't been on the hunt for a forward. Whether it was one to lead the line, or one for depth, we seem indefinitely on the search for a goal-scorer. I'm not complaining, just making the point, I think.

I often pay little attention to transfer rumours, unless if they appear to gather pace or originated from a credible source; yes the definition of credible remains a little hazy. ESPN today reported that Podolski had fallen out with current Cologne director Volke Finke. Cologne are now, reportedly, willing to consider selling Podolski for around £12.5m despite the form the forward is currently in having score 14 goals in 16 league appearances this season. The same report is also crediting Arsenal with an interest in the forward which seems to make logical sense with themselves being light in numbers up front.

The expected departure of Pav does leave me confident that we're well in the hunt for a forward, whether it be a short 6 month option or a more permanent deal. Podolski looks in promising form this season and, at 26, could possibly be hitting his peak. We're not strangers to late moves/attempted late moves/the feeling of disappointment after virtually no activity for 31 days. This is another window where I find myself hoping we don't drag out our transfers but get them wrapped up as early as possible. I know, we say that every season as well.

One Problem We Took From Norwich.

What a fantastic victory. We've played more than a fair share of blinders this season but I'll stick to my guns and say that that was our best performance since the defeat of Liverpool a few months back. Triffic. A formation that is looking more finely balanced than Philippe Petit walking the high-wire between the two towers of Notre Dame back in the '70's. We're a joy to the eye.

I'm sure I'm not alone in crying out for weeks for a formation that consisted of a centre midfield of Sandro and Parker with Modric sitting in front. The holding midfield of Sandro and Parker sat comfortably whilst allowing Modric the freedom to strive forward and link up with Bale, Rafa and Ade. The team just oozed class. Even if it was a mid-table side, the performance last night would've given any side a good chase for their cash.

What I also noticed was how well the team worked as a unit in defence. On the rare occasions Norwich enjoyed some possession in our final third there was consistently 10 players behind the ball and this forced Norwich to shoot from 30 odd yards out. We'd press the space well, win the aerial challenges and start playing our football from the back 4. We're much better at keeping the ball this season. Every player wants to get involved and play football the right way, on the deck. What I love about Adebayor is that he's probably the only 'big forward' that prefers to have the ball at his feet than in the air. It suits our style of play down to a tee.

Adebayor. I've noted on here before that he can frustrate the bleeding life out of me. Although, he's probably the only forward that has such a poor shot on him but is still one of the first names on the team sheet. His work rate, his link up play and his movement is phenomenal. He could have a team and a half worth of players surrounding him and he'd manage to keep the ball and make space from it.

But one problem that has probably been pointed out before is that we could be one Adebayor injury away from being starved up front. I'd find it hard to believe I was the only one to have the old heart in the mouth when Ade pulled up clutching the hamstring in Norwich only to look across and see super Pav twiddling his thumbs wondering what to spend his wages on this week. With Defoe currently out and Pav just not fit to lead the line, a forward must be a priority this January.

We're enjoying a good run of form, playing the best we've played for 50 years and picking up points home and away. I might start to enjoy this.

The Assault Continues.

On the back of a rather misfortunate and, in my opinion, a rather unexpected defeat at the hands of ~~Foy~~, err Stoke rather, many would've looked to Sunderland as a mere light obstacle on the path to jumping back into third. This was the sort of game last year that Gallas proclaimed the players "thought they'd won it before even kicking a ball," and as the minutes ticked down it looked increasingly likely to be one of those games.

Thankfully Super Pav found a way to shed a rare glimpse of light on himself and propel us back above Chelsea prior to tomorrow's meet.

Tomorrow's game is massive for Chelsea. Yes, for Chelsea. AVB hasn't, as yet, underlined his sides authority or dominance on the Premier League. The win over Manchester City in their last home game toned down the pressure and gave the Portuguese boss a rare opportunity to claim that his current Chelsea side can win the Premier League. To date, their results against sides competing for the Premier League title and top 4 positions aren't title-worthy:

Man Utd 3-1 Chelsea
Chelsea 3-5 Arsenal
Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool
Chelsea 2-1 Man. City.

So who are the boys that could cause us a bit of bovver tomorrow? For me, one of the key players who'd have to have an eye kept on him is Danny Sturridge. The young English forward has forced his way into the first team, and deservedly so, replacing a player that was once valued at £50 million. 50 million, bloody hell. I bet Roman still has nightmares about last January.

Often operating on the right side of a 4-3-3, Sturridge is almost given a free role in attack whilst given the freedom to come deep to pick up the ball and attack the full back. I expect 'Arry to tell Benny to stay deeper and to limit him going forward as much as he'd like. I'd also expect to see him shut down high up the pitch in the hope of limiting his influence in attack. Sturridge could've walked away with a hat trick and the match ball from Newcastle had his finishing been more clinical; Ryan Taylor guilty of giving him the freedom of the Sports Direct Stadium in which to play in.

Drogba is one other that can also cause problems in attack. On their day, I can't stand that phrase, King and Kaboul can have anyone in their pocket; just ask Suarez. It's fair to say they've had a fair few of those days this season; another one Thursday wouldn't go a miss. Chelsea like to play their football, Mata is fantastic with the ball at his feet and another real danger. Much like Sturridge, he's another that likes to pick up the ball early and attack inside, looking for key passes and getting involved as much as possible- much like Rafa but with pace.

On comparison with two fully fit sides, I'd fancy our chances. Although, football being as it is, this is not a priviledge we currently have at our disposal. With the expected absences of Bale, Lennon and Defoe I'd take a punt on an attacking 4-2-3-1.

An expected back four of: Walker, King, Kaboul, Benny
A Centre Midfield of: Scott and Sandro
A forward three of: Townsend, Modric, Vdv
And Adebayor up front.

Our best chance of winning this game is putting Chelsea on the back foot and playing our own game. By playing high up the pitch and keeping it tight, this restricts the opportunity for the likes of Mata and Sturridge to get on the ball and attack. Townsend would be a gamble, no doubt, but throwing a young English player into the deep end may motivate him to make sure he takes his chance with both hands. He's also a similar sort of player to Bale and looks confident with the ball at his feet, operating off of either flank. A Centre midfield partnership of Parker and Sandro frees up the likes of Luka and Rafa to operate in a free role just behind Adebayor without having to look over their shoulder every two minutes.

It's these sort of games that can really underpin our belief that the sky is the limit. Although I'd snap your hands off for fourth, there's no reason we can't form an assault on third or higher and Chelsea are one club that, at times, look there for the taking.

Considering the key players we could have missing for Thursday, I'd take a point. Had we been at full strength then I'd feel a win would've looked very promising. I'll go 1-1.

Whip Round Badly Needed!

I would begin by saying that this seems a fairly premature start for the usual 'silly season' but, to be honest, it's like insomnia- it never sleeps. I guess, to a rather short extent, it does bring a quick rush of excitement should the story appear to have some substance and a stable platform to stand on, as rare as it is.

Tevez. Carlos Ididn'trefusetoplayIjustrefusedtowarmup Tevez. It was these sort of rumours, back in the old 'Ibra to Spurs' days when it would bring joy to the eyes. It appeared to bring light to a usually below par season. Yes, it brought hope. Of course, they rarely came off. The only one for me was Rafa coming in last year. So upon reading "Tevez to Tottenham," I couldn't help but brush this aside with the old dustpan and brush. I'll be brave, stick the old neck on the line for not the first- and incredibly unlikely to be the last- time and say that this move is about as likely as Modric leaving in january. It. Ain't. 'Appenin'.

"But why, why couldn't we bring this fella into play for Spurs?"

First and most importantly, for Carlos anyway, I read somewhere that his wages are probably just a few quid over our wage limit. Not many folks are lucky enough to earn around £250k a week. £1m a month. £12m a year. This is of course an estimate, I'm not the blokes bloody accountant but I can't envisage his actual figure being far from this sum. I'm all for a whip round though.

My second issue would be to query why he'd join us. We are possibly looking at our best side since the double winning side of '61. We are having a good season. We are approaching Christmas and only 7 points of the league leaders with a game in hand. But I'd still find it hard to see Tevez itching to join a side that is not in the Champions League and, in all honesty, where he may not be guaranteed a start every week.

£20m? I can't see City letting him go for that sort of price. This guy has a market value of around £35m-£40m, possibly more. City are hardly short of a few quid and so can afford to hang on until they receive the right price for him. It would also raise an Ancelotti-style eyebrow if Citeh would allow Tevez to leave to a PL club, especially at a price under what he is valued at.

I'm sure it made pleasant reading. I'm sure it brightened the day up ever so slightly. It would be a very good signing, no doubt, but in all honesty the chances of this move going through are about as likely Arsenal are to win the treble. Sorry kids.

"F*** me what have I done there today?"

I found myself sitting here almost writing in mere disbelief. The trip back from Stoke almost flew by like the 95 minutes today. So many incidents that needed little discussion but caused huge debate; Chris Foy finding himself in the centre of, well, everything. Heard Foy's recently gone into hiding?

Let's begin. We seem to have this 20 minute start away from home where we find we just can't get started. We know what Stoke are all about. In the last few years I felt we'd dealt with Stoke's aerial threat. Their fans celebrate being awarded throw ins like we do penalties. The problem in the first half was that Kaboul and Gallas failed to stamp any authority on to Crouch and Walters. They failed to bully them like Premier League centre halves should. Shawcross proved this; if he wanted Kaboul's shirt so desperately I'm sure something could've been sorted after the game.

Crouch did handball in the build up to the first goal. The linesman should've picked up on this but, even so, the defending was shambolic. After Etherington miss-hit his second and we found ourselves 2 down at half time, Redknapp gave the players the biggest wake-up call they'd have had all season. Reverting to 3-5-2 was brave but a smart move and one that needed to be done. Stoke were always likely to sit and try to protect everything they had, parking more than the bus in front of Sorensen.

The second half reminded me of my old Sunday league. If we were ever playing away from home it was always one of the parents of the home side refereeing. This left the chances of decisions going your way about as likely as Arsenal are to win the league. No chance. Foy's performance reminisced this, well, the refereeing wasn't even fit for the amateur Sunday leagues.

We needed to get that goal. We needed it early and keep Stoke on the back foot. I felt Modric was fortunate to get the penalty as, despite it being a clumsy challenge on the Croat, he went down rather late; but still, it was given and back into the game we found ourselves. What proceeded from then on almost pushed me to giving up on the sport completely- well for a few heated seconds anyway.

Issue 1: Kaboul finds himself booked for appealing a decision that even Shawcross was blushing at the decision to not award us a second penalty.

Issue 2: Shawcross elbows Kaboul's goal bound shot off the line but Foy, *insert Specsavers-based insult,* fails to spot this. I've been reassured that he is a professional referee.

Issue 3: Defoe found his shot just outside the 6 yard box blocked with hands. Although this was a much harder incident to pick out, the Stoke player in question proceeded to intentionally use his hands to block Defoe's shot.

Issue 4: Kaboul's sending off. I fail to see the difference between the foul on Modric and Kaboul's challenge on Walters, yet our centre half finds himself picking up a second booking. This is without even mentioning that Walter's was offside in the build up.

Issue 5: From the 1st minute Stoke ensured that time was not of an essence; do their fans enjoy seeing a ball dried over and over again? 60 minutes or so in I noticed that Shotten took, on average, around 18-20 seconds to take a throw in. Yes, I did count. Does that make me sad? Yes, a little.

Issue 6: Adebayor's disallowed goal. It was picked up by a few of us that this particular assistant referee was quick to change his decisions just as fast as he made them. Giving corners then reverting to goal kicks and incorrect decisions in terms of throw ins and fouls. How he's given Adebayor offside for his equaliser is still beyond me. Were the flood lights not bright enough? Was he thinking of what to have dinner that evening? Was he also thinking back to the catalogue of errors from his good mate Chris? I doubt it was the latter. But whatever it was, it's another decision that's cost us; and left a lot of us £36.50 down without the result we deserve.

Issue 7: The 'smaller' decisions- the simpler decisions- the decisions that, even standing a good 100 yards away, looked as routine as they come for a professional referee. But not for Foy, he made the day difficult for himself, he made it difficult for us. It wasn't the odd one or two incorrect decisions, this was 95 minutes of the most diabolical refereeing since United away a few years back. Eat your heart out Webb, Foy's topped you today.

Tottenham turning up proved about as pointless as Stoke's midfield; The drunk fella standing behind me would've done a better job. I was almost getting neck pains from raising my head up so much as the ball was lofted time and time again into the air. The boys gave everything in the second half, we got our tactics right but were robbed of a fair game; Foy leaving any little respect and dignity in Stoke.

Redknapp gave the Mail a much more honest view of Chris:

'We've come away with nothing because there was a blatant handball on the line and Adebayor is two yards onside when the ball is played to him,' said Redknapp

'That's why we've come away with nothing, two decisions have been completely and utterly wrong. I spoke to the referee after the game. I never go and speak to referees after the game, I accept defeat and have never complained about refereeing decisions in 30 years of managing. Never.

'But today he got some badly wrong. When he goes home tonight and sees them he'll know he's made a couple of terrible decisions.

'The linesman, he'll watch it tonight, when his wife's making him a bacon sandwich and he'll think: 'F*** me what have I done there today?'

'I thought Younes' second yellow was harsh and the first one he got was for telling the referee it was handball, for something he has missed,' said Redknapp.

'What's he supposed to do, not say anything when someone gets something wrong? Do you just accept it? I don't think so.'

He added: 'From the start I felt he wasn't going to give us an awful lot here today. That was the feeling I had.

'I just felt he was quite enjoying not giving us anything. It was one of those days.'

Kaboul's face upon seeing the red card emerge summed up the game. Disbelief. Disgusted. Robbed. I'd like my £36.50 refunded from Chris, I doubt I'd get it. I'd never stayed behind with a good few thousand others to give Foy a few thoughts and comments. His quick look up at the Spurs fans proceeded by his head dropping told the whole story. He knows he was abysmal. He knows he'd cost us atleast a point. There's the rant I'm used to.

Eff You Chris, Eff you.

How'd they pick that one out?

2 weeks into the 2011/2012 season and, although the sun was out in its full, it failed to gaze down over N17 as our season kicked off to a rather dim start; dim being the understatement of 2011 so far. I pictured Mancini seated in a large leather chair slowly running his fingers through the fur of a tabby cat, which was perched rather snug on his lap, as he oversaw the investment of millions being splashed out on the world's greatest talents.

As the start of our season was delayed due to kids deciding to wreak havoc on our beloved community; we found ourselves on the end of rather large defeats away at Yanited (atleast it wasn't 8) and at home to Citeh. Any pre-match optimisms were quickly dashed in Spurs-esque typical fashions as we began to think the worst with minimal transfer activity and one player that appeared willing to give his left arm to leave the club.

Come September 1st and even the most optimistic Spurs fans- the few of you that exist- could have hardly envisaged the formidable run that were to occur across the following 11 Premier League games. For sure the arrivals of Parker, now known simply as 'Super Scott,' and Adebayor were always going to fill the gaping holes torn in our side with the seemingly long term injury to Sandro and the finishing from last year that only resembled a forward line of the late Sergei Rebrov and Helder Postiga.

Through my own eyes, all I could see for the next two months was a treacherous road. A road that would feel like driving up the Alps during snow season. With the following game a usually tricky trip away at the Molineux and with fixtures against Liverpool, Arsenal and away at Newcastle to come within the next few weeks I remember telling myself that, come Christmas, if we stood comfortably in sixth then we'd have done well. We're typically a club always in the chase, and rarely find ourselves being the one chased.

Come December 5th and never has one glance at the league table brightened up such a typically cold and wet Monday. We're third. This isn't 4 games gone sitting third with 10th place just 3 points behind. This is third approaching (almost, kind of) the half way point of the season. With Scott Parker giving a new definition to the phrase 'hitting the ground running' and with the same lines of 'How've we gone so many blaady years without the boy?' a question being asked almost weekly, I can't help but think we've got a whole team of players that would be worthy for the player of the month award.

I was sceptical at the initial signing of Friedel. One of my close mates is a Villa fan and I remember him saying that he 'parrys' the ball out far to much for comfort. But what Brad has done is brought with him not only a wealth of experience but also the reliability needed to give the back four confidence. Gomes was no doubt a good shot stopper but his rather rash and unexpected ways always gave the impression that the 4 boys sitting in front of him lacked serious confidence in the man between the sticks. This lead to stupid mistakes and leaving games with a point instead of three.

Kyle Walker has been almost a fresh signing for Spurs. In the modern day game full backs are just as much wingers as they are defenders. They're expected to get forward to support in attacks but also aim to keep the opposition winger quiet. As good as Charlie was at defending, he lacked the pace to fit in with a modern day full back. It'll be a shame, but I expect him to find a decent club in January and probably prove to be a good coup for them. Kaboul was also one that has shown a vast amount of maturity since the summer. With Scotteh and Manu taking many of the plaudits, Kaboul's exploits and the extensive improvement in his defending has largely only gone noticed by us (and Juve); he reminds me of Benny, he'll give you a consistent game 9 times out of 10 but would never pop up on the radar as a stand out candidate to other clubs or the media; this I've no complaints with.

I think Luka was always going to be an interesting one, but in true Croat fashion he's wholeheartedly got on with it and I think that maybe, possibly, he might just be quietly happy again- but it's hardly like I'm best mates with the bloke. Levy's chains have remained untouched since the summer and his firm stance on the club concerning our magician are paying off, on and off the pitch. Bale looks to be reproducing his form of 2010 and even Lennon is looking the player that we all jump on our feet to watch. Defoe's barely had the sniff of first team action he'd expect but is still sticking the chances away and what a player we have to call upon.

Adebayor

Ade, although I still find he can frustrate the living daylights out of me at times with his shooting, he continues to find the net and links play fantastically. He's a rare breed of forward in that he's a lanky forward but his work rate is second to none. He's a different type of forward and one that we've missed; he constantly looks to bring others into play and this can be shown through his movement all over the pitch below.

I think this sums up Ade's work rate for the club. Considering this is the 'big' forward brought to lead our line, he's simply everywhere. This is Ade's attempted passes against Wolves, his first game for the club:

Considering this was his first game, to an extent, you expect a forward of his class to want to show his class and work rate for the team from day one. Ade is one that has been key to our recent success and we can only hope that he can continue this form throughout the whole season.

Rafa needs no mention. I think I've exhausted all the words that can be used to describe this bloke so instead he gets his own paragraph. He's world class. We can't ever moan that he brings problems with where he'd fit in because, if anything, we should adopt our formation to make him fit in. He scores goals, he makes goals and is entertaining on the ball. £8 million? Levy you hero.

We're touching the start of December. In truth, the vast majority of our side could've been awarded player of the month. Scotty is more than a worthy winner. We're playing with confidence and it brings great satisfaction seeing Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all over our shoulder. For me, January is key. I fully expect serious money to be spent if the scenario hasn't changed in terms of league position. Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal do have the resources to spend and the wages to match. I expect little activity from us. Possibly a short-term replacement for Pav and Gomes, but no major activity to take place.

If the King's knees can stay intact. If Adebayor continues to play with his heart on show. If Modric and Parker continue the frightening form they're in. We might just take 3rd.

We were split concerning the sale of our talisman of last year. It brought with it unnecessary stress and tired eyes for not only the management and the playing staff, but for also us as fans as well. The only way Luka could climb his way out of his self-dug hole was with his feet.

I still remember being called a 'gooner' for insisting that we should keep Modders at all costs; if anything it would send signals to our other players that we wouldn't bend over in a hurry should a club with a support matching the loyalty of a team of John Terry's wave a bigger pay cheque in front of them.

But in truth, if anything, Luka's upped his game. He's settled in well alongside Scott in midfield; with the former hammer proving the perfect compliment for the Croatian.

"We needed some fresh blood in our team." Modric said. "Parker and Manu came in. They are great players. They have improved our squad a lot and you can see that on the pitch. Now we are in third we have hard games coming up so we just have to keep fighting for each other and keep momentum up."

He's still here, we're playing well. Let's enjoy it!

Modders Spurs Hint?

Ahh what a feeling it is to be able to blog to you lovely people once again. A few admin problems have now been rectified and I can finally talk once more about my one true love. Oh how I've missed writing about my beloved Spurs.

Anyway, now the gay bits are out the way. Things have looked pretty good. No frustrating draws, poor performances or talk of how we're destined for mid-table.. yet. Not a lot to moan about; I could get used to this. But I refuse to.

So it's mid November and of course murmurs of players coming and going in two months time is a formality. A rather depressing formality but a formality it is. It's already widely reported that Levy is close to agreeing terms with Modders to stick him on a £100k a week.. should we make top 4; My mate down the local who's Levy's brothers mates cousins friend told me Levy waved the chains in front of him; Luka didn't need a second invitation.

So I'm reading this story. A story that seems to actually have substance behind it, a rarity I know, and between the lines is this saying that should we make top 4 will Luka endure at least one more dreaded season with us? Que songs and dances on the streets of Tottenham; like any match day really. I was leading the bored brigade with this will he won't he story but this does raise a little surprise. Whether we'd make Champions League next season or not I thought he was gone. Running on limited time. Playing for the right to play for someone else.

Maybe he does see our progression and the potential that we've been been ranting on about since the Jol era. Maybe he believes we can challenge for top honours and compete with the best.

Or maybe he'll have another moan next summer.

Blackburn problems

Saturday's are never the same when Spurs aren't giving us a usual roller coaster of emotions. I find myself attempting to take vague interest in other games, throwing money down the drain in the hope one club I couldn't give two s*its about beats another. It leaves me usually a few quid down adding to more misery; I'm a right cheerful chap.

So after a rather minority of a game takes place at lunch time in Manchester, the real game kicks off at 3pm in Blackburn. Of late, we've done rather well away at their place; we've won our last two meets away up there thanks to old lanky features who now ply's his trade in Stoke. I still see Blackburn as an unpredictable side. Of course, they find themselves neck's stretching above water but even this side could punish if we took our foot of the accelerator.

The Arse were given a shock & a half and gave the rest of us some comedy gold as they lost on a miserable day away there. Hell of a Super Sunday that, but I can't see a repeat against a stronger side in us. The only real issue would be Bassong partnering Kaboul at the back. The pair barely have game time together and Bassong really does get the heart beating furiously at times.

It's a superstition of mine, as strange as it sounds, to check team news prior to kick off so I'm unsure of any injury news. Although, assuming the same team is fit (with the absence of King) all eyes will be on whether Defoe or Rafa start. With Defoe looking sharp it would be right to make the most of this, exploit it while he's in good form. But, saying that, I can't and wouldn't like to see Rafa relegated to the bench.

3-5-2 anyone?

I joke, of course.

The return Sandro and Lennon will make selection one tough nut to crack.

Do We Really Care?

Rubin Kazan in the Group Stages of what was formally known as the Wafer Cup. Yesterday's attendance matched that of a Spurs XI friendly against an average Sheffield United side which invites the question of; do we really care?

With a rather dreary attendance of just over 24,000, it seemed most of us were happy to watch proceedings involving a vast number of fringe players and a few youth players take place in the comfort of our own homes or down the local on the box. It was almost embarrassing but at the same time I'm not pointing the finger, I wasn't there.

I'm in full support of 'Arry giving a few of the kids ago. Livermore, Carroll and Rose could thrive in this year's competition and really rubber stamp their name as prospect's good enough to make the first 11. Although, these same players will still lack the Premier League experience that may be required to make the step up from a reserve to PL starter.

More positives were that Lennon looks to be fit with 'Arry now having a real bleedin' headache concerning who will start in Blackburn on Sunday. Although a slightly more inferior opposition than what the kid's used to, Sandro looked very sharp. Much of what we're used to. Excellent reading of the play and breaking up opposition moves when required. He's Brazilian, he always puts in a shift and a half.

The thought of Bassong playing in the league frightens me. I'm losing sleep and I'm sure it's not the booze I've had that very night. Can we just invest in a new knee for Ledley and have a calf thrown in free for Gallas as well? Get the boy off to QPR.

So, should we progress to advanced stages in this tournament should we stick with the kids and fringe players that have got us there or turn to more reliable heads? I'm thinking of possibly mixing it up a bit the further we go. We can win this thing.

Daws In Danger!

Call me unpatriotic, but I awoke with Twitter reminding me that England were playing this morning. I would say I'd enjoyed a nice sleep but the builders next door ensured that it was a relatively early start for a Saturday.

Upon my usual morning glance of Newsnow, I came across one update on Michael Dawson. I'd have thought at this stage we'd be clutching at straws hoping, anticipating, crying out for an early return to the heart of our defence so we could push on with a season that has currently left us lounging in mid-table. But no. In truth we haven't missed the bloke. The 'get well soon' card is still sitting on the bed side table- must get that posted today. It hasn't been one of those Bale or Modders type injuries in which we were counting the weeks down until they return.

So what happened?

"I was outside running earlier in the week but the Achilles was still a little sore, so I've had to take a step back and concentrate on working in the gym," Dawson said.

"The physios aren't too worries as I've been in a protective boot for a couple of weeks and I need to strengthen it up"

"I'm obviously a little down, but you never know with injuries and rehab, so we'll wait and see."

"I'll have a weekend's rest now and then it will be back to it next week. It's so disappointing to be injured and I was with Tom Huddlestone in the gym this week, he's also out and it's a hard time for a footballer, it's the side of the game people don't see."

So why, why had he become almost a forgotten man? I hear one or two speak.

Well no prizes or extra Christmas presents- no it's not to early mention Christmas- for guessing why. The return of the King to his rightful throne on the football pitch has in no uncertain terms formed a formidable partnership with Kaboul. The pair have been brilliant together. With Ledley at the back in the last 4 games, opposition sides have only engineered 19 shots on target; this averages to 4.75 shots on target a game, giving Friedel little work to do.

Of course Ledley will forever be carrying a big question mark over his fitness every week. The will he/won't he question will always there. Taking a strong assumption that Ledley could engineer a good run of games and continue this good form alongside Younes, then where does this leave Dawson? No doubt Dawson is a brilliant defender, although sometimes looks a little sloppy at the back, he's still been a key man for us over the past years.

Upon his return to full fitness and assuming Ledley and Younes remain fit and in top form, the issue comes over Dawson's involvement. I can't see why you'd change a winning team and a partnership that has looked outstanding over the last month. So does this leave Daws in a tracksuit watching on the sides every week? 'Arry will have a tougher call than his JD/VDV 'problem'

Ancelotti hints he'd welcome Spurs job.

What a morning after. I'm sure you'd all join me in agreeing that this was one hangover that was worth every painful minute as we smiled in the sunshine this morning. Kyle Walker ensured that the tide has changed. No longer are we second-best. No longer are we 'closing the gap'. We're better than Arsenal, and I never thought I'd live to see the day.

Patience is a hell of a virtue.

The best thing was, we didn't even play as well as we could've done. So, in an amongst our smug faces whilst reminiscing every endless emotion we felt under the sun when Walker put us ahead with 20 minutes to go, Ancelotti's had a few interesting words to say.

"I want to manage a team that challenges at the top, and I include Tottenham and Liverpool in that category. Wenger has had a shaky spell at Arsenal in the last few months, and for the national team Capello will be replaced by an Englishman, which will free up a place at the club."

It would take a two bob, as Clive would put, to not read between the lines in the last part that here Ancelotti is regarding Redknapp. No other 'team at the top' is managed by an Englishman. I mentioned in the summer I felt Ancelotti would prove a decent acquisition. A man that has experience in the PL and would save Levy a few quid due to there being no compensation package involved in trying to bring him in. This is of course assuming that Redknapp, should he be offered the England job, would take it.

A little forward thinking here with many if's and but's admittedly. At first view, it paints a positive picture. But right now, I'm still enjoying yesterday about as much as I'm enjoying this weather.

For as long as my memory can recall, I struggle to find a point in time where many experts-yes that word is used hesitantly- many fans and even bookies fancy us to topple the boys from Woolwich. It's evident that there we may be edging the power struggle in North London, but our own example should illustrate why we shouldn't approach this game with to much over-confidence.

Form never counts in these games. They're usually full of a shed load of goals; whether we were lounging around in mid-table or Arsenal were actually looking worthy Premier League winners. Those were the days, eh. Cometh the year 2011 and how things have changed. We recorded our first Premier League win for a few years at White Hart Lane in style as Danneh Rose set us on the way to a deserved 2-1 victory back in 2010. It's a shame Gomes seemed to let that sort of form slip through his fingers; he can't even seem to catch the team bus every week.

No doubt Wenger will rally his troops, he has too. His players know this is one of two games a season their fans live and breath for. This means we must focus. We must approach the game in similar style to Liverpool. Don't let them settle or play their game.

So how to line up? I'd be incredibly surprised if we matched the same formation we laid out in Wigan. I'm still a firm believer that the 4-2-3-1 would prove a worthy winner. With Parker sitting in midfield with Sandro and his dodgy barnet giving Arteta and Ramsey nightmares for weeks to come, this would free up Modric in midfield. Vdv as an advanced right forward with Bale on the left and Ade up top. Boom. With this in mind, we have an excellent option in JD on the bench and I also heard whispers Lennon was in line for a return. Two game changers there.

It's the first fixture we check on the day the fixture list is printed. If we stay focused and play our own game we could prove victorious. Any lapses in concentration will be punished. Are we the better of the two sides now? I never thought I'd ever even consider that question.

Ahh, that's a dilemma!

So the season finally started. A usually tough old game away in Wolverhampton. With the old enemy and Parker slotting in alongside Modders, the new look gave a real sense of optimism amongst us.

What I first noticed about Adebayor was how involved he wanted to be. He didn't want to do a Crouch and sit on the last man waiting for a ball to be knocked up long to him. He wanted the ball at his feet and encouraged us to pass the ball; a rare feat, but a promising one. For a big bloke, the guy was everywhere. Fantastic work rate. He really was out to prove a point.

Scotty Parker. The summer long flirt that finally committed. He looked as though he'd been in the side for years and gave us what we all expected and had had sorely missed. He showed the rest of the midfield how to stick in a tackle and was composed on the ball. A fantastic assist to set Ade up and running and from then on we never looked back.

For me, Benny and Walker were also outstanding. The return of the King also gave a real boost and we were fantastic second half. For me, Doyle got the better of Kaboul in the first half. He took down everything thumped up to him and was a real handful. Although second half I don't think he got much of a look in. Kaboul was a lot more in the face of him and won the personal battle. 'Arry must've given the team a good kicking at the half when it was needed. The only negative I would say is that we need to compose ourselves more in the final third. On more than one occasion we'd have the ball on the edge of the Wolves box and cross a ball into, well, nobody, instead of possibly just drilling it in. Wolves always look assured in the air. More players busting a gut and a half to get into the box would've given us more of a goal threat.

So, where does this leave Rafa? Admittedly I felt Niko looked off pace and a little flat. I also felt Jermain's movement was good at times but when it mattered and we were breaking he was slow to get going. Although, his goal should've guaranteed him a start next week and when both your forwards have scored why drop one of them? So with Niko the expected culprit and Rafa useless in a 4-4-2 it'll be interesting how he will fit in next week, assuming he is fully fit.

10 Years Without A Win

Wolves away. There are easier places to go, that's for sure. It would've been a blessing to host a newly promoted side at the Lane to really kick on with this early start before early whispers of "2 points 8 games" return and Levy's caught in Spain pinching another manager under the nose of 'Arry. But as it is, we've a tough away trip and travel there without any points currently registered on the board. Triffic.

I'm never the optimist and one thing I read this morning raised an eyebrow. It was pointed out by @OptaJoe on twitter that Spurs haven't won an away game in the Premier League in the month of September since 2001, a run of 15 games. It hardly left a feeling of optimism but hey, stats are a thing of the past.

Manu Adebayor. A top, top signing. Although for a side looking to make a quick return to the Champions League, there is such enormous expectation placed on his shoulders. We still lack a real goal scorer in midfield, and more so now with the absence of vdv (although personally he's more of a forward anyway) and this is where the worry lies. I expect nothing different than for 'Arry to go 4-4-2 with Ade and JD up front with Parker and Modders sitting in midfield.

So I'd look at this in two ways. I like to see the partnership of JD and Ade up front. I'm sure you'll all join me in the hope that Daws doesn't just go route one to Adebayor every time as I believe he's better with the ball at his feel. On paper, the partnership looks lethal; Jermain scored two fantastic goals in Wolves last year and more of the same wouldn't go amiss tomorrow. The midfield pairing of Modric and Parker could also prove the perfect compliment and match the similar affect that Sandro had when in the side. There's no doubt the Brazilian has been sorely missed and our two previous games prove this. Should we be a goal up approaching full time, we'd also have Livermore to shore up the midfield in a 4-2-3-1 if we just need to sit and see the game out.

My only issue with this formation is that should we be a goal or two down with full time approaching we don't really have a plan B. Pav is hardly the impact player we could rely on to knock in a goal within being on the pitch for 5 or 10 minutes and we lack any real attacking threat on the bench. Fingers crossed we don't have this issue. As much as we hope (and need) Adebayor and Parker to hit the ground running in a Spurs shirt, the pair have barely had a training session with the first team and so may need a few weeks to fully settle into the side.

Time For A Change.

All too typical, isn't it. We're two games into the season and Rafa's apparently got up to 6 weeks keeping Sylvie company every Saturday. A more welcome bit of news is that Sandro is reportedly back into training so, hopefully, shouldn't have too long until he can make his first appearance of the season.

This season's formation. A big talking point. Call me deluded but for me Parker is to good to be on the bench, the boy's a starter. Alongside Sandro, the pair would add the bite and drive we've lacked so far in midfield. Of course, our poverty ridden Croat couldn't be left on the bench. This leads me to believe that in Rafa's absence, 'Arry should look at adopting a 4-2-3-1.

The usual boys at the back. A midfield 2 of Sandro and Parker with Bale, Modders and Lennon in front and big Ade up front alone. With Sandro and Parker protecting Daws and Kaboul at the back, this would free up Luka in the middle without him having to look over his shoulder every two minutes. Upon the return of Rafa, he should challenge Lennon for that attacking wide role. He wouldn't be a right midfielder.

Although, as we are currently missing our Brazilian rock in Sandro, I couldn't see any other way other than 4-4-2 against Wolves on Saturday. JD and Ade up front. Parker and Luka in the Middle. We also have the option of Livermore to shore up the midfield should we need to shut up shop for the last 15 minutes or so in the game.

We did get Champions League playing 4-4-2, two seasons ago. Fact. But Crouchie was in the side every week, Bassong had a brilliant season and Pav had a good run towards the end. These players and a few others aren't what they were. Other teams around us have improved considerably, most notably Citeh and Liverpool. We have to keep with the times and play the formation best suited to the players we have presently at the squad. We wouldn't come 4th this season if we played the same team we had 2 years ago when we got Champions League in a 4-4-2. That side wouldn't beat this present City side 3-0 like it did. Times have changed and I do believe that the 4-2-3-1 should atleast be given half a chance.

Big Problems Could Be On The Horizon.

D-day. Another day another dollar, in Levy's eyes. A day where the shareholders of ENIC were probably applauding themselves and patting each others backs over champagne and prawn sandwiches. Ok, it probably wasn't quite like that. We resisted a late 40 million squid approach from the cheats in the west for Luka and got rid of a lot of 'deadwood' that had been sitting around clogging up space on the bench.

So, the priorities for yesterday. Conceding 8 goals in our first week of the Premier League gave Levy half a kick up the arse to go out and try to capture a quality centre half, one with a bit of pace. We wrapped up Parker which in reality should've been sealed atleast a month or so ago. The player was always going to leave, why it took us until deadline day to bring him in only 'Arry and Levy know; maybe it saved a few quid.

Cahill

Gary Cahill. In my view he would've been the perfect compliment for Dawson. He loves a tackle, has the pace we lack in the middle and very good in the air. Once more though we're left wondering if only. It reportedly came down to a disagreement on a transfer fee. Now with £29m coming into the club this summer plus the estimated £30m coming in from the Champions League last year, it must have been Levy's typical hard stance to budge above a certain amount, considering Cahill had 12 months left on his contract. You could almost picture Levy and Gartside playing a game of bluff with Levy expecting Gartside to crumble or risk losing a £12m-£15m rated player on a free next year. It was also reported the Trotters wanted JD as part of the deal, no way. We couldn't compete this year with only 2 forwards.

Kaboul is not a centre half. He's technically inept and struggles to read the game. Even during pre-season we looked uncertain at the back. We have two very good defenders in Gallas and King but with both nursing seemingly long-term injuries, we're not in a position to have the time to wait for their recovery. If anyone's got a spare knee for Ledley we'd all be very greatful.

Cahill was a must, a minimum, we needed a new CB to partner Daws. It never fills me with confidence seeing him and Kaboul at the back. You pay good money for a Mercedes, you pay substantially less for a Focus. Good players cost money. I'd rather splash £15m on a player that will stop you conceding late goals to the West Brom's, the Sunderland's and help us compete. Maybe it's just me.

Biggest Worries

Depth. It worries me to see that we're one tackle away, one clash away from Adebayor picking up an injury leaving us with Pav and JD left to lead the line. We're also left, once more, without any real competition to challenge Lennon. I felt a more attacking threat should've been brought in to challenge Aaron and to offer a different option; a player that can play out wide and double up as a forward. Bryan Ruiz of Fulham. How I hope we don't regret missing out on him. The boy can play up front and out wide. He know's where the goal is and for a tenner you'd have thought we'd make a move. As much as we want to believe it, we know Gio won't get a look in this year. The boy's career is being wasted on the bench.

Theories

A lot is being made of the 'Arry situation. It's almost common knowledge and the closest thing to a fact that 'Arry will leave us for England next year. Last year it was an apparent disaster waiting to happen, now I'm thinking that maybe it won't be such a bad thing. A new face, a fresh change. Someone with a bit of tactical prowess. Yes, I'm referring to Ancelotti. Could it be that Levy's building a war chest for the new man next summer? We'll have to wait and see. The departure of Luka is almost inevitable next summer meaning that next summer will be a big summer at Spurs. If we don't make 4th who else will want to jump ship? What will Bale be thinking?

For the time being, as we always will, we'll be fully behind the boys all season. Although, we're left wondering that, with the apparent demise of Arsenal, we've missed a golden opportunity to sure up the back line and add a bit more fire power up top to make a big push once more for 4th spot. Adebayor, great signing. But we can't rest all hope on this one man. Parker, a good signing. He'll do the job in Sandro's absence. He brings the leadership we've seemed to lack in King's absence.

With a fully fit side we're capable of anything, but it's rare the whole side ever are fully fit. It's football.

Poor old Luka's got to do another year on an abysmal wage. Almost poverty that. Considering holding a fundraiser for him.

How The Passion Of One Man May Scupper Deal.

With silly season set to get even sillier for the next day and a half or so; the familiar reporters spending their summer holidays in tent's and sleeping bags outside Spurs Lodge waiting to catch the next big thing emerging from a 4x4 sporting a mild grin and blacked out shades matching the tinted windows in the 4x4; they may even give a little wave to the press. The daunting reality was that at this moment in time it only looked as though Scott Parker would be that big signing we were all desperately clutching at straws we'd make, weren't we?

Even now, the desire of one Jake Livermore may put a halt to any deal to bring Parker to the Lane as it's 'understood', Sky sports does a lot of understanding each summer, that Livermore has rejected the opportunity to drop down to the Championship. To me this reaffirms Jake's desire to really push for a run in the Spurs team, and why not.

Where most may arguably take the opportunity to drop a league in the hope of securing a more first team squad status, we have one boy who fully believes that he can be a valued member of our first team this year. What a fantastic attitude. If only all our players shared half the passion of this boy. He looked confident against Citeh and gave a top performance. Probably should've started.

After being linked with a host of players not even fit enough to make my cuppa every morning, in Jake we have one boy that isn't half bad at the ripe age of 21 and could be a gem in the season's to come. Parker would be a good addition to the squad, as long as it's not the last of the window, but I bare no grudges on Jake for potentially scuppering the deal. He has every right to want to fight for his place.

Silence! We've all gone quiet.

Mancini turned up with a squad pinched from Football Manager '11 which oozed quality. The absence of Sandro was almost a gutter blow in itself. With no steel across the middle it was there on paper that our midfield would get overrun. Kranjcar guilty of helping to lay out the red carpet towards Friedel's goal with Dzeko taking full advantage.

Against top sides every chance given is a holy grail. They cannot be wasted. At 1-0 down and with a little belief in the fans shedding onto the pitch Bale volleyed a dream ball to Crouchy who managed stick a free header wide of Hart's net. In truth it brought about as much surprise as Arsenal's defeat up in Manchester today. Get the bloke out. I read somewhere there was one guy offering to run him up to Stoke himself. If you read this please contact the customer service team at White Hart Lane. Prior to that was an excellent passage of play that Bale managed to put over with the goal gaping. Punished. 2-0 at half time and all I was hoping for was that it wouldn't get embarrassing.

They were far better than us and we have to accept that. We couldn't cope with the quick give and go's City played on the edge of our 18 yard box. They moved the ball well and found pockets of space that we proved inferior to. We needed a Sandro/Diarra/Parker type player in there. An intelligent forward with good feet which we now have in Adebayor would've been invaluable today.

We have to look at the facts on paper that we cannot compete with City; they're challenging titles, we're challenging (hopefully) 4th place. We've played two sides which have an excellent chance to finish 1st and 2nd in the league this year. It was hard to imagine us getting anything from these 2 games, realistically anyway. Had we kicked off our first three against Sunderland, Arsenal and Bolton then I'd be confident to say we'd probably be sitting in the top 6 saying how good this season could be. There'd be the belief there to kick on, but instead we're clutching at straws and hoping that a few more players sign. It's tough not to make excuses, but Liverpool wouldn't have enjoyed their week had they had our fixtures to kick off with.

I've now jumped on the get luka outta here bandwagon that seems to be growing in the numbers by the day. That is IF. A big IF. We have realistic replacements, yes plural, to come in. There does seem to be a lack of passion for the shirt, a bit of a negative atmosphere around The Lane. It was all a bit quiet after conceding the first, just like up at United- it deflated us. Coming back from the internationals to find 3 or 4 new faces may give the place a lift. If I had a magic wand at Spurs I'd bring in a quick Centre Half - we've missed the pace of Ledley complementing Daws, two Centre midfielders notably in Diarra and possibly a more creative player and a wing attack- a Silva, Nasri or Mata type player.

But of course, I have no magic wand and whatever team we're left with Thursday we'll give 100%. We've arguably the toughest few months of any side and a slow start, to me, looked almost inevitable when the fixture list was printed.

Kaboul top scorer, two of the hardest teams out the way. Don't panic.

Defeat May Help Our Progression

So during my temporary suspension from the golden cup of Spurs news that is Newsnow, we've drafted in a couple of temporary players. Not quite by the skin of the teeth but almost. Queue any temporary panic that may have been starting to kick in to ease off a little as we now have another forward in Manu Adebayor. Good. The boy knows the Premier League and has shown he can score at The Lane more than we would have previously liked.

The other boy is one Yago Falque on loan from the Old Lady for a season. I'll be frank and state that my encyclopedia, ahem, of players doesn't stretch as far as this boy but hopefully he'll give Lennon some competition on the flank. Yes, hopefully.

But recently we found that our Carling Cup fate is a tricky tie up in Stoke. This competition has brought the highs (winners 08), the lows (defeat at the first hurdle last season) and the laughs (Arsenal falling in the final at the hands of Brum after a comical error). Although, it's one cup that we find we're pretty split on. In modern football for us there is this perception that finishing 4th would come priority over winning the FA Cup, the Carling Cup or the Europa League. Some of you may argue against this but I do find, as disappointing as it may sound, that this is the general consensus. Such is it where the financial rewards of a place in the Champions League vast exceed winning any three of these competitions should mean that our progression as a club would be boosted should we make 4th. Again.

It still brings a frown and a sigh of disappointment when I see the Scots given a chance to secure a sacred place in Europe's most prestigious competition and then come September seeing that side fallen out of European competition altogether. Yeah I know, FIFA's brilliant idea of spreading the brand of football to all countries and that. I'll still reserve my own opinion about it all though.

With the Carling Cup now seen as more of an irritant more than anything, and with the Europa league having the effect of playing two seasons in one, it could prove a blessing in disguise should we fall short at Stoke. Give our younger players another competition in which to prove their worth, throw them into the rough for a taste of a typical English Premier League game and see how they cope; we may even see one bright light emerge.

I'd never not support Spurs wherever and whoever they play, but giving the youngsters and fringe players a run in the Carling Cup as we should in the Europa League may reveal a star in the making and help the first 11 focus on the fight to regain 4th once more. With Arsenal looking incredibly vulnerable this season, this could well be our last hope to climb into the promised land of the Champions League before another monopoly is reborn.

It's Not Gonna 'Appen

(Yesterday's post that failed to publish due to a temporary suspension of my account, apologies for the information being a day old, although still valid I believe!)

Morning all. A familiarly quiet Sunday at Spurs Lodge, the usual no in's or out's and therefore proving another unsurprising transfer window day. Although, we do look set to tie up a couple of Ex-Goons before deadline day but then again we've 'looked set' to sign them for a week or so now. Just keep those fingers crossed boys.

Another report that was doing the rounds and also by one @Agent_ITK via twitter was that Spurs were meeting Bayern officials today to discuss the possibility of bringing one Arjen Robben to the Lane. Yes, the same Robben who's dad denied his son any possibility of joining us in Norf London because well, he felt his son could do better; In truth, I guess Munich aren't half bad. Parents eh, they just don't know when to let go.

Despite all this and before a monumental amount of false hope is built up, this is one deal that I can almost categorically reject will happen. It's no surprise. Robben still finds himself a crucial member of the Munich first 11, is on a more than decent wage packet and looks likely to play Champions League football this season. Levy's a shrewd businessman, but this is one deal that I doubt would even touch the surface of the water before being blown out of it.

There was also a small mention that Citeh would let Adebayor sign for us on a free. A player valued at £25m nigh on 2 season ago and suddenly even if he paid his own match fees wouldn't get a look in. Again, this looks unlikely. Unless if Ade agreed to a more modest wage packet of the £60k-£70k bracket, yes I know 'modest' eh, then he'll find himself slouching around taking a cool £170k a week watching Citeh's new heroes on Sky every week or so. If I'm honest, I'd take £170k a week to do nothing. It would certainly pay off the mortgage and then I'd possibly consider taking the missus out for that meal I promised her a few years back.

Where The Niblets Did That Come From?

Well well well. What a way to kick start this season eh? A temporary break given from the groans aimed toward the lack of transfer activity as we travelled to Arts for the ITV Cup qualifying round first leg.

The performance was one that we hadn't seen for a long long time. Massively overdue imo. After a good search we finally overturned a stone and found our form. It was a delight to be playing football that was an ease on the pupils. The accuracy and the speed of which we passed the ball was more than impressive. The game was read better than a novel and the awareness of others from each individual was evident, summed up through Bale's goal for 4 as Tommy chipped a delightful ball over the back line for the Welshman. Gaww and doesn't that Jake Livermore look a natural. Raw talent and a real passion to play for the lilywhite. Love 'im!

Despite not being the strongest opposition we will face this season, nothing can be taken away from the quality of the performance. None of the 5 goals were belted in from 30 odd yards but were well worked. We showed why we achieved a spot in the Champions League quarters last year and were very good value.

I awoke this morning to the unsightly words from a certain Mr. Aljai that Niko was in fact knocking on the door of Sunderland bright and early with the player close to agreeing a move to the Stadium of Light.

"Why are we selling Niko when we've still got bloody Jenas in our squad" A statement that I read rather frequently from some of you on Twitter this morning; one that makes sense. The reality is that, how do I put this, Kranjcar is class. He's divisions above JJ in ability. Despite spending the majority of the last season watching us fail to overcome the heavyweights of Blackpool, West Ham, Wigan and so on, he still turned up and saved us on a number of occasions, sticking in performances worthy of a start.

Here, we have a player with raw talent, a real eye for a pass and a hell of a strike on him but yet fails to make the side on a regular basis therefore queuing a vast interest in the Croatian where most, if not all, clubs can guarantee him a place in their first 11 i.e. Sunderland.

Then there's Jenas. Oh Jermaine, where did it all fall flat? His Spurs career is reminiscent of a certain Leeds United F.C, so much promise but it's ended in tears. I still remember believing that we'd made a real coup when we brought him down south from St. James'. A player that in his debut season for the club looked a magnificent signing. Since then, well, it hasn't quite worked out. A few goals against the scum have kept us persisting but, in the end, his position in the first team is met with more groans than cheers.

This sums up a classic Spurs situation. It's an easy feat to simply state 'sell the deadwood and get a few top top players in' but the reality is that no one wants our 'deadwood'. No one wants players that haven't performed to well for however long. We were lucky O'Hara really showed what he could do given half a chance otherwise he'd still be on the books. Jenas' inconsistency and demise down the pecking order at Spurs isn't without reason and everyone can see it. Seeing him captain us in Madrid still gives me nightmares.

The point is, as much as I don't want Niko to leave if it means we get a half decent fee and actually start pushing ahead in bringing in a forward and progressing then it's a deal that must be done. The boy himself doesn't deserve to finish another Premier League season with only 2 starts under his belt. No one wants a player that hasn't performed for a season or two and with Levy appearing to ask the Earth for some of them we're left in an impossible situation.

So, I predict, 7 days previous to this one you pictured yourself cheering on the mighty Spurs. Whether in the comfort of your own home, down the local, or standing proud at the Lane. My prediction would be that we'd come out of the game with a frustrating 1-1 and once more reveal the anarchy of failing to secure a quality centre forward as of yet. Maybe one more rant-free week or so will do us all good. Early season optimism eh..

Whilst the teams above and around us battle to gain an early advantage and find their stride for the forthcoming season in the Premier League, reports have suggested we're on the brink of brining our old enemy Emmanuel Adebayor to the Lane for a season. We've been linked with arguably 12 teams worth of players this summer, inevitably, although the Adebayor deal is one that I am confident will go through.

Adeabayor's situation is a difficult one. The poor old sod finds himself surplus to requirements at Eastlands after a few season's in Manchester.

Let's take a minute to sympathise.

The Togolese boy enjoyed a 6 month holiday in Madrid. Knocking in 5 goals in the process in a campaign that lasted 14 games for him. There's no prizes for guessing why he wanted a permanent move to Spain. It hardly raised an eyebrow when both Tevez and Balotelli admitted their disgust of Manchester, for obvious reasons. But poor old Ade; Mourinho looks to have ruled out any possible move for the Togolese forward. If they wanted him, they'd have signed him by now. With no other firm interest bar our own Levy's needs to adopt the classic grabbing-of-the-ankles-and-pleading tactic and send a kindly written letter to Mancini to take care of atleast half of Adebayor's wages. I'd make sure it was sent first class as well.

With Adebayor set to miss out on Citeh's 25 man Champions League and Premier League squad and with no other club bar our own even showing a sniff of interest, this is a deal I'd expect to go ahead within the next week or so.

But then again, how many times have we thought that eh?

Modric Drops Spurs Hint?

Maybe just maybe I'm reading a little to into this statement, apologies if you believe so. But one of our all time favourite boys Luka Modric released this statement regarding Robbie Keane.

“Robbie is a great player, he showed last night how important he is for the Irish team,” said Modric. “He's a great lad. I would like him to stay but he wants to play.

“That's not possible at Tottenham, so he will probably try to find other options. “But I'd like him to stay and play for us.”

The furthest Robbie's made it away from Spurs this summer was Dublin last night and I'm sure he'd have relished playing for a side that actually value him. Despite this, at first glance it would appear that Luka's very forward looking about staying at Spurs. This has come after Rafa declared that even the Spurs boys had been trying to convince our good friend to stay in North London, for another year atleast.

A rare glimmer of optimism on my half is telling me that i do thoroughly believe Luka will stay one more year at Spurs. On the other hand, If Robbie's still here come September the 1st then my hope in this sport will have taken a rather large dent.

Spurs Robbed As We Go 1-0 Down In Our Opener.

When a quiet protest first broke out in Tottenham following the death of one Mark Duggan, who's name seems to have been lost amidst the chaos that has hit the country of late, many of us struggled to even consider that our Premier League opener was in danger of being postponed. Little did I believe that this protest would be escalated by a minority of youths keen to endanger lives of the innocent and vandalise the property of others.

But we were determined. We weren't prepared to let a youthful violent minority of people continue this destruction of our beloved community, or any other. In the end, the damage was too much and, despite our brave efforts to rid these people off of our streets, our Premier League opener is now cancelled.

Official word from Spurs was:

"Following ongoing discussions with the necessary authorities regarding this weekend's Premier League home match against Everton, it has now been confirmed that this fixture will be postponed due to safety concerns relating to infrastructure of the High Road and access to the stadium caused by last Saturday's riots.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to supporters due to matters outside of the control of the Club. We shall update fans on when this fixture will be rearranged in due course.

Supporters who have purchased tickets for this match are advised that tickets will remain valid for the re-arranged date. Anyone requiring a refund should contact the Ticket Office via email at ticketoffice@tottenhamhotspur.com"

"Disappointed the game has been called off after 6 weeks of hard work for it! But people's safety is more important. Let's hope no more games are called off this weekend or in the future" Tom Huddlestone had to say.

Michael Dawson added: "It is frustrating as we worked for six weeks trying to get fit and unfortunately the first day of the season isn't going to be happening for us,"

"But the most important thing is the safety of all the people involved, the police won't have called it off too lightly."

Should we qualify for the Europa League, then the chances of seeing a 3pm kick off are about as likely as Wenger is to lift a trophy with the Arse this season. These kids have left thousands and thousands of fans out of pocket and it wasn't just TV's they've done a runner with, they've robbed us of our Season Opener.

Respect goes out to all those that battled for their communities and I sincerely hope that people have been able to slowly start rebuilding their lives. Our game with Everton will eventually be giving to us, but some people's lives will never be the same.

He's almost a yid!

It appears the ball's been rolling off the pitch as well as on as Levy finally looks set to wrap up some steel in midfield in the current absence of Sandro. Despite the disturbing scenes that have casted shadows across Tottenham, Lassana Diarra looks set to jump on a flight back to London to stick his signature on a contract with Spurs.

Although a striker is a must, it really really is. This brings a slight sigh of relief. A player with a fantastic read of the game and excellent positional sense that we know can stick in a tackle and pass the ball. A much needed upgraded on the unfortunate decline of the once irreplaceable Wilson Palacios. There was a time when I genuinely believed he was irreplaceable. I do call this decline unfortunate as he was never the same player after the tragic death of his brother.

Diarra knows the Premier League. At 26 he's at the prime age for a midfielder, for Madrid I rarely saw him stick a foot or two wrong and believe players with a far superior reputation being paid a few extra notes was the primary issue that resulted in Diarra's time in Madrid being spent soaking up the sun from the sidelines. He also brings a vast improvement on both JJ and Hudd.

Let's hope the boy's happy with the princely sum of a 5 figure salary every week. One thing's for sure, we'd bite Levy's hands off for that. Hey, I'd take minimum wage to play for my beloved Spurs.

Nota Bene. Thank you to all those that gave Luka a fantastic cheer on Saturday. That's exactly what the boy needed. He still has a home here and I'm sure he slept a little easier that night.

Darkest Depths of Mordor Avoided

Mordor. It's almost how I pictured this tie being drawn. Travelling to the darkest depths of Eastern Europe on a Thursday night in a bid to earn the right to play in the Channel 5 cup in Europe's second string European Competition. Well, it seems lady luck has shone a glimmer of light over N17 as we pulled Hearts out the bag. No long flight out for a Thursday night with the usual and expected hangover that would hit us like a train for a Sunday game. No surprises if we still played like we had one though.

Instead, it's a short trip to the exotic country of Scotland. Never have I ever felt so much happiness at the thought of travelling to Scotland. Even now I'm reflecting at the joy of this draw. You get my drift, it could've been worse.

For 'Arry, this brings a similar sense of satisfaction as buying a new TV for only then to see the same model on offer the next day. The way I see it? The fact our forwards made finding the back of the net a more difficult task than finding Waldo in a picture of Where's Wally mean's effectively we made this coffin so now we must lye in it.

But, it gives the younger players the limelight and, more importantly, our Thursday nights to prove to us they are worth all the fuss and a place in the first 11. It gives us more games in which to cheer on the mighty Spurs and that's something I refuse to complain about. Mason, Kane, Parrett, Souleymane, Bostock and many more could thrive this year if they're given a chance in this competition

In the words of our good mate Kev, "this is a proper tie."

"It's magnificent to be in Europe, and this club - a club like Tottenham Hotspur - if we're not in Europe.... we're nothing. we're nothing." Never forget.

Levy Receives Another Blow

Another move about as dead in the water as Osama is right now, but it won't bring the greatest of surprises. Well, not as big a surprise as when we saw a certain Grzegorz Rasiak arrive at Spurs for a medical anyway.

One Guillem Balague, the name needs no explanation, has shed a dim light on our hopeful move for Spanish prodigy One Matter. This has all arrived packaged and sealed first class from Twitter:

"Mata's clause to sign player cheaper (20-23m euros) finished yesterday. Clubs agreed fee, player happy to go but money didnt arrive...

Spurs tried to get him but he only wanted to go to Arsenal or Barcelona. Without Cesc money, Arsenal didnt want 2 pay.Now he costs 60m euros

Only a superoffer of 30m euros plus will get him but now the most likely scenario is a new contract with Valencia"

So, in reality and as predicted, a move for Mata was never on the cards. Reports are Shakira's expected to perform her single 'No' to Levy at his own personal home, he's used to hearing the word enough this summer.

The clouds are already darkening the day over WHL and the season's 12 days prior to kick off. Oh I am a joyful one on this sunny day aren't I.

Spurs Had A Heavy One Last Night As Mata Becomes Official

Call me unpatriotic but the World Cup draw was bringing my eye lids to rest, so why not reassess today's activity.

Well, 'Arry's made if 'official' but at the same time almost ruled out any move for Juan Mata. One of those, yes we want the boy, but so does every other top club in Europe quotes. I wouldn't expect a move any time soon. As soon as one club jumps in and lays a 6 figure weekly sum on the table and the chance of a proper European Tour then that's us blown out the Pacific.

Don't hold your breath on that one.

A fantastic player that would provide top competition for positions all across of midfield but a priority signing? No, well, it shouldn't be.

This has come on the back of an unconvincing victory at Brighton's new AMEX stadium. In regards with Spurs, our performance is hardly worth a report itself. Half the boys still thought they were tanning on the beaches of South Africa and you'd have been mistaken for thinking that they'd had a heavy one in Brighton last night.

Bale looked sharp as he has done this summer and a solid second half from Livermore saw us come out 3-2 on top, but, in truth, Brighton were incredibly unlucky. A win's a win, isn't it? Seeing Vdv hobble off after half hour was a familiar unsightly sight to see.

Vucinic move imminent

Well a fresh twist or were we lead down a path that seemed, for some, to straight for our own liking? One name that, admittedly, I expected to join Spurs this summer Mirko Vucinic is apparently 'very close' to moving to Yanited.

Mirko's agent claimed the move was 'very close' with Gill admitting that SAF and the board were looking to bring in 'one more player'. Too good to be true? Those 5 words could write a whole summer novel of our transfer activity. Endless links with no end product.

I was never full of excitement with the thought of having Vucinic joining. His goal record has hardly set the world on fire and he's knocking on a few years. It was more the mere thought of signing a new forward that was the real excitement. Are we just getting to the point where we'd take anyone?

Harry Kane continued to prove that we may have a shining light emerging from our Youth team after scoring a brace after coming off from the bench and fitting in well with a few of our big boys in Milton Keynes tonight; but then again, Pav scored twice.

Vucinic. Bullet dodged or chance missed?

Modric Mutterings and Pre-Season Thoughts

So our boys returned from their holidays and were flown out to South Africa. There were strong reports Queen's It's a hard life was evading the ear phones of many players. You'd have been forgiven for making the premature assumption that we expected to see one new Spurs employee sporting the £57 cup shirt in the Vodacom challenge but, alas, our eyes were left with the painful sight of Robbie Keane starting upfront for us. I also read he had to pay for his own shirt and plane tickets?

The first game looked as though the players were still recovering from last season's hangover as a lacklustre performance was punished by a late goal but not one that we are unaccustomed to conceding. It was evident that if we ever thought these games would be a minor stroll on the seaside then we ought to have a rethink.

Pirates proved an equally stern test. I felt this game summed up our season last year in the sense that van der Vaart would come to our rescue and fill in where our strikers were missing- the goal. The game finished a familiar draw.

I was unable to see the third and final game due to work commitments. I'm sure Luka cherished clutching a rather curiously shaped trophy with the captains armband wrapped around his arm. Just imagine this is Premier League trophy with Chelsea he was heard muttering to himself. Well a boy can dream can't he.

I never look into to much depth with pre-season. Anyone remember the 5-0 drubbing of Roma only to follow it up with a miserable defeat at the Riverside a week after? I do enjoy watching Spurs win, but it's not catastrophic if they experience a few defeats in pre-season. The players need a big slap round the face and wake up call after a disappointing second half of the season last year.

South Africa's never an easy place to play if your nationality's English. The trip was a good test for the boys and despite the rather abysmal performances, fitness is priority. It is still evident that a forward is an absolute must. I did dream that Redknapp stated Keane could be given a another chance at Spurs, didn't I?

Is 'Arry mad?

So, on the day of my birth, 'Arry's spoken once again. Aside from the usual M****c gossip which has taken more twists and turns than a barrel of snakes and after currently cooling from the initial heartbreak of Modders confessing he wanted out of N17, it now appears that 'Arry & co are chasing a loan deal for an old Enemy.

Emmanuel Adebayor. Well, he's one player we know all about. He's scored against us enough to know that he can hit the back of the net. Ade's currently having to scrape a living, having to feed off a reported £175k a week. How's these players make a living on a pittance really doesleave me clueless. It must be the love for the game.

"He is a name that was mentioned and I spoke to the chairman about the player, about the possibility of loaning him, but whether they [City] would loan him I don't know," Redknapp said.

"If they would loan him he would be of interest. He is a quality player. We will wait and see."

'Arry drops Levy threat

Well it has been a patient summer, to say the least. Correct, I was careful with my use of words there. After witnessing the capture of a keeper who's already looked into local care homes and a younger forward who failed to make the grade at Barca and fell short of a earning a contract at Chelsea, patience really has been giving a new definition.

It wouldn't have come to an immediate surprise that many of us expected to see a world class forward at the Lane. But hey, who'd have thought that these guys see Champions League and a starting wage of a six figure sum every week a minimum for them to kick a ball about wearing the lilywhite. This, whilst at the same time we expected to see an endless queue of clubs all on their knees desperate to take the likes of JJ, Robbie, Hutton, Bentley and the like off our hands. Who'd have thought eh, who'd have thought.

Sell all the 'deadwood' and everything will be triffic. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many times I've heard that said. So, 'Arry's made another plea for Spurs to show more 'ambition'.

"If he [Modric] goes, he weakens us and if you start letting your best players go who knows where we will finish up."

"We have to show the ambition to keep these players, your Lukas, your Rafas, your Gareth Bales." Said Redknapp to Sky Sports News.

Zoom in, crop and read between the delicate lines in this short statement and it's clearer than glass what this message reads: Bring one or two top players in otherwise our heroes, the ones chanted from the Park Lane, will soon enough leave their signature on a contract with a new club, blinded by the numbers they see printed. Oh, sorry, I meant the ambition of these other clubs. This leaving us eating mid-table scraps and fighting a battle we are all to familiar to.

Day's haven't been to bright of late have they? It's hardly been a storm hitting N17 but more of a grey skyline the last month or so with a light shower here and there.

I once read a few of us were slightly appalled at seeing Sandro warming the bench of Brazil at the Copa America. Sick of the sight at seeing one of our more consistent performers not making the grade and the first 11 for their country.

Well eat your words quicker than ya match day chips. Spurs revealed that Luka's partner in crime in the heart of our midfield has been sidelined for 3 months. So we have one player who wants out, and one that can barely walk. It's ok, I'm waiting to wake up as well.

Sandro tweeted before surgery that he was "going to the operating room now" and to "cheer for me guys."

Post-surgery and our boy said he felt "fine already" and "thanks." Not a man of many words. Maybe he underestimated the character allowance on Twitter.

Anyway, not quite the pre-season we had planned. I'm guessing it's not all going swimmingly for Levy & co as well.

Afternoon all.

Well we all had a nice surprise to wake up to today didn't we? I don't personally buy the Sun newspaper. If I wanted to read fiction I'd simply visit my local library and pick out a novel, possibly Thomas Harris' classic The Silence Of The Lambs would be a preferred choice. Jolly good read that.

But we all awoke to the news that another Spur in the form of skipper Daws was apparently unhappy that he wasn't earning enough penny's to make a living. The report stated that an, ahem, insider said Daws felt 'under-valued' at Spurs. This 'insider' must have had a right old chuckle when he saw this published today and probably used the cash he was given to make this statement to pay a visit to Arsenal's club shop.

As Levy was on his way to stick Daws into the same cell as Luka before throwing away the key, the reports were strongly denied. Surprise surprise. I think this story was taken with less than a pinch of salt at most and any concerns were simply non-existent.

I understand that journo's, like the rest of us, have to make a living. But really? It was an abysmal story with little substance.

Modric 'happy at Spurs'

Oh how things change quicker than Chelsea's boss in this football lark these days. Numbers in a bank account blind loyalty, turn heads and suddenly it only takes a few extra quid to realise a dream nowadays. If Danny Blanchflower could see the current stance of modern day football he'd turn in his grave.

This Modric debacle's already taken more twists than 1995's The usual suspects and doesn't look like finishing off any time soon; although at this moment in time, the ending seems to be taking more of a bleak outlook.

This is what Modders agent said. Noted June 17th 2011:

"He's happy at Spurs. Any offer that comes for him, it's up to the decision of Tottenham Hotspur if they want to reject it or accept it. We have a great partnership with Tottenham and there's not been activity on our behalf that we would do on our own."
He added: "Everything is in coordination with Spurs, and it's all up to the chairman, Daniel Levy, to decide. [Luka's] under contract, he's happy there, he's willing to try to win the Premiership with Spurs and play Champions League [the] next season. He loves the Champions League experience."

So not even a month has past us by and Modders is barely back at Spurs lodge. The next turn in this never-ending-story-like saga? He's reportedly now willing to hand in a transfer request. I guess he enjoyed soaking up the sun on Roman's yacht, sipping fine champagne whilst counting the millions he'll be making each year playing for the Cheats.

A player that shone with so much dignity and respect has finally shown his true colours. He has no one to blame for this but himself. He cannot brand Levy as 'arrogant' for fighting to keep hold of his own employee. Were we expected to just roll over?

It's ironic that this was the player held in very high regard amongst us as fans, not only as a magician with a football but a genuine level headed bloke as well. Loyalty is a term lost in football and it's sad that a contract is no longer worth the paper it is written on.

He should be thankful he has the opportunity to sit in the stands every week. We fork out hundreds, even thousands to do that. He'd be taking home a cushty wage and get to cheer on the mighty Spurs

Poor old Luka Modric

Oh Luka. 4 quiet days have passed us by since Levy's head popped out of his Rover and smirked to the happy campers at Sky that Modders was staying with calm and order seemed to have been established. Let's not kid ourselves for to long, quiet days rarely exist at thfc.

How it was only the calm before a second storm. The love and respect for Luka is sitting on cracked ice as once more the Croat ran to the press to explain his side of things. But this time, he kept it local.

Warning: The quotes may cause shock for some.

"I reminded the chairman of our gentleman's agreement when we were in Dubrovnik last summer and I agreed a contract extension with Tottenham," Modric told Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti.

"At that time, I had an open chat with Levy - that if a bigger club came in with a concrete offer, we would consider it and agree the best solution for all concerned.

"Now Levy doesn't want to talk to me and said there is no possibility that I can leave Spurs. He threatened me - he said if I didn't accept the club's stance, they would make me sit on the bench or in the stands."

"A lot has been published in the press about the meeting with Levy, who gave the public a twisted account of what happened. I must say that I am genuinely disappointed about what Levy said to me. He didn't care about what I was telling him. It all only convinced me further that I was right to consider moving on to another club," he said.

"I hope that eventually he will understand the situation and that we will reach an agreement and go our separate ways in an appropriate manner."

"There is no doubt that Chelsea want me - they sent a concrete offer to Tottenham," he added.

"I know that the new Chelsea boss (Andre Villas-Boas) said he wants me in his team. Of course I am flattered by this interest in me - it's a club that all players dream of joining, fighting for every competition available.

Honest Luka or poorly advised? Naivety jumps to mind when I first read these quotes. It must be a tough life being a footballer, but the reality is that either Levy or Luka are fighting a losing battle and at this point Luka's no closer to his, ahem, 'dream' move to Cheatski as much as the next Tom Dick.

We're paying this poor bloke thousands a week and we deserve the respect of Luka. He's given us two solid seasons, but owes us so much more. Which part of the deal has satisfied us so far? I heard the £22m was the change Abramovich found at the bottom of his trouser pocket. It's also interesting that AVB has told Luka he wants him in the side, I didn't think this was legal?

It was clearer than water that Chelsea's offer was simply a 'look our interest is official' offer and since then Luka's been more than public in trying to engineer a move across London. Money blinds loyalty, we can't kid ourselves that it still exists in the game.

Eagerly anticipating the lost in translation claim. We're not clutching at straws are we?

Well well well. I wouldn't call it a twist but more of a confirmation and reassurance in this never-ending-story that is the Modric saga. Could be the title of a novel that couldn't it. 'The Modric Saga' by Daniel Levy. Well, anything for a few quid anyway.

It had got to the point where I was half expecting a grovelling Levy to crawl out on his knees through the gates of White Hart Lane and to plead with us to understand that Luka's head 'had been turned' and it was worthless keeping an 'unhappy player', or words to that effect anyway.

But no. Today, Levy, with his own head almost on the chopping board, has shown that the club is more than a business to him, sticking to the strong words and promises he made us. Modric hasn't done himself any favours. He'll know his tail will be stuck between his legs for a few days but he remains a Spurs player and deserves our support.

A player who rounded off last season with a golden reputation has certainly chinked his armour. People make mistakes. I do think Levy's desire and genuine passion for Tottenham Hotspur may have rubbed off on our little Croatian.

Maybe one day the players will care for the club almost as half as much as we as fans do.We all want silverware as much as they do but we don't jump ship. Well, we can all dream can't we?

Giuseppe Rossi. Never heard of him? Then you've had your head stuck in the sand for the last year or so. 'Arry slapped him with the usual 'top top player' quote and since then we've been chasing him like he's the woman of our dreams but may just be a stretch to far.

Our chances to have him sporting the lilywhite next year appear to have faulted as Rossi's agent confessed he was interested in a move to Juve. 'old on. they didn't even make Europe did they? Here's what his agent had to say:

"Juventus are a top club for their history, for the people who run it and for their future ambitions.

"It's clear that their present penalises them seeing as they won't be playing in Europe next season. But their appeal remains intact. Let's say they are like a beautiful woman who just needs to go to the hairdresser.

"It's a possible avenue and the directors are keeping themselves informed. We are talking about an Italian player who reminds people a little of Alessandro Del Piero.

"The important thing for Rossi is to go to a top club that would welcome him. If it's not a top club then he'll stay at Villarreal.

"Giuseppe wants to evaluate everything carefully, he knows that a decision on where he plays next year is a fundamental one for his career."

So it does seem Rossi is out of our clutches. Maybe 'Arry could carefully explain how we're going to win the Premier League next year, shove a few notes in his pocket and give him a firm hand shake. A decent player but Levy would lose his hand trying to dig so deep in his pocket to stump up the cash.

With regards to Spanish football, I'm quite lucky. Every now and then I stick on La Liga in the comfort of my living room or catch the odd snippet from Aguero, Ronaldo or the like on SSN. So why, why are you lucky my friend? you may jump to ask.

Well, believe it or not, I have friends which are not Spurs fans. Pause for gasps. Yes it is true. In fact, I have one close friend who lives and breaths Spanish football. He follows it as if it were his own livestock. He's own flesh and blood. If I didn't know any better I'd have called him the son of one Guillem Balague. So, when it comes to anything Spanish, I'd like to get his opinion.

"Llorente" I asked. "I see Spurs may be in for him again, what say you on this possible move" the following was his response:

The main thing you have to appreciate when talking about Llorente is that Bilbao only play basque players that are born in a certain area in northern spain, for them to finish in europa league is phenominal with the limited amount of players they have to choose from.

Llorente is a massive, massive part of that, and i dont know if its something spurs have a big problem with but the amount of first goals he gets during games so like the 'break through' goal is incredible, theyd be no where without him, pretty sure he was only 2nd to messi in that department and also very high up the top scorer chart.

Lacks a bit of finesse but his finishing is very very good and aerially suberb, theres plenty of good headers of the ball in spain but would struggle to think of many better than him in the EPL good decision making in terms of whether to go for goal or hold up play/nod it down/pass it on. If crouch is good at getting the best out of van der vaart then llorente would be incredible, as much as i love crouch hes pretty poor in the air for someone that tall but llorente uses the ball very well plus is good on the deck.

Buy out clause is €35mil but i cant remember the last time a buy out clause was met in spain, plus they dont apply to english clubs so would probably cost you a bit closer to 20 id imagine 25 probably.

Also one little extra bit, very premier league ready, was watching bilbao v valencia earlier in the season and david navarro went up and gave him one of the worst elbows youll ever see, navarro went down like he was dead, literally, it actually worried my for a bit his eyes where rolling back and everything but on the replay you could see nothing could of happened and he was being a c***, llorentes head was spewing out blood, went and got bandaged up came straight back on, would not worry for a second about him coping with the premier league.

Take the response with as much credibility as you may wish, but I'm sure for many it will confirm what you may already have known. So, my thoughts are confirmed. I knew the boy was good and I'd back my instincts to go all out to get him.

Smart Move From Levy.

Our youth is starting to show more promise than Arsenal's current dissected first eleven as the years roll on. Steven Caulker is a name that I'm sure you're all familiar with, an intelligent centre half that has the fittings and attributes to follow in Ledley's steps.

Caulker has impressed consecutively for the last 2 seasons. In the 2009-2010 season his season loan spell brought back to Spurs a player of the year award with him after a successful stint at Yeovil. The promising centre half carried this into last season where he turned out regularly for Bristol City whilst knocking in a few goals in the process.

Yesterday saw us tie down Caulker to a new contract until 2014 then barely after pen had left paper he was told to pack his bags and has been sent abroad to gain valuable experience for the Swans in the Premier League. Gaining Premier League experience should prove decisive in whether Caulker is ready to push for a starting place in the Spurs XI for next year or whether a good Championship player will always be his level.

Kyle Walker has already shown the benefits that can be reaped of a loan spell after enjoying arguably one of the most successful seasons in his career last season. If he's not atleast pushing for a spot in the first team next year then it would leave me questioning the point of a loan spell if when a player does impress he is still not given the chance or is sold.

Still though we still look to have some promising players that could soon be touching shoulders with the same players that reached the quarter final of Europe's most prestigious competition last season.

Super Pav may have marked his last game in a Spurs shirt with a double against Birmingham as Russian side Anzi Makhachkala have claimed a deal has been agreed to take our Russian back to his native homeland, according to talkSport.

Anzi Mackhachkala, even sober I'm having problems pronouncing that one, are said to have submitted an offer of £13m and the decision lye's solely in the hands of Pav.

The forward has become almost marmite with a lot of us. Inconsistency has plagued his time at Spurs. Strokes of genius would be ruled out by strokes of incompetence and at times he could make Heskey look like a world beater.

£13m would prove good business and with the £14m expected to be brought in for Palacios, 'Arry may finally have a few quid to bring in those world class class players we're all expecting to be wearing the lilywhite next season.

I'm always slightly hesitant when it comes to posting based strictly on ''ITK's''. They could be about as concrete as Arsenal's title challenge last season.

Although, it was reported yesterday that one old United boy in the form of Diego Forlan had jumped on a flight to England and was seen at Spurs Lodge for a medical. The former flop really found his finishing boots in Spain as he scored a shed load of goals for Atletico Madrid alongside a certain Sergio Aguero. I'm sure I read his name alongside a £40m bid in January somewhere.

At 32, the Uruguayan is certainly knocking on a little but could be the platform to push us into Europe's elite competition. We need a forward that's confident in front of goal and Diego would bring that. "But would he flop again?" You may ask. We'd have to see. Bringing him in for up to £7m wouldn't damage Levy's pockets to much you'd think. He'd be worth the risk and should be looking to tarnish his old reputation he had at United.

Anyway, atleast things on the L*** M***** front have simmered down. Still no word from him though.

Has The Day Finally Come?

The recent departure of Jamie 'I had to leave' O'Hara has seemed to force open the exit gates at White Hart Lane as another professional incapable of finding his way into the first team is set to leave, according to reports.

Jermaine Jenas. Marmite with most of us. I like marmite but will confess to not being JJ's biggest fan. How he managed to captain the side in Madrid last season still brings a shock to the system.

It's been heavily reported that JJ is set for a £5m move to Turkey, with Fenerbahce a mooted destination. We have come to discover that trying to get rid of the dead wood each season is a feat that is far easier said than done. Who'd have thought that no club was willing to splash out on our overpaid and underachieved bench warmers.

Jermaine has never really lived up to expectation after a promising first season at the club, yes he had one good season, and I'm sure we won't miss him to much.

Bombshell dropped. Dreams dented. Hopes shattered. Modders has finally declared he wants to move to Cheatscum. Yup, the ageing bunch with more money than sense. The same bunch that make our prawn sandwich brigade look like McDonald's regulars.

Fixture thoughts.

To an extent, I feel a little ignorant even discussing this as at the end of the day everyone has to play everyone. Although, a good start could prove season defining (as it was in the 09/10 season) so it's important to start off positively.

Everton, United and City. It's not the kindest but atleast 2 of those are at the Lane. After those, I predict we'll take 4 points to Wolves the week after and this time hopefully score more than we concede.

The Christmas period brings us home games against Sunderland and Chelsea before listening to Norwich away on a Monday night because of having to visit those relatives you'd 'missed' for the last year Boxing day. Soon after we get to take a nice trip abroad to Swansea before kick starting 2012, and the beginning of the end of the world, with a home trip against the Baggies.

We then round off the campaign, assuming the world hasn't ended, with a home trip against Blackburn, an away trip to Villa- but don't expect to see McLeish sitting in the dugout, and finish off with a huge game at home to Fulham.

Last year gave us a big slap in the face that no PL game is a dead on cert.

Eto'o considering move

He gave us some nervous moments when he pulled a goal back for Inter at the Lane last year and now Samuel Eto'o is considering plying his trade in England.

Undoubted ability, a winner at all levels and a forward that would strike fear into many sides. Much like an old Liverpool forward before he started firing more blanks in West London than Rebrov did on a good day for us.

"I am currently considering my options," he told Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport. "I have one month to decide as to whether I want to stay put or choose to move to the Premier League.

"I am now 30-years-old and it is very important for me to think about my future before I sign what could be my last contract. I have already shown that I have what it takes to play in Italy and I now have the idea of proving myself in England."

Optimistic? Yes. Impossible? Nothing ever is in football. All I'd say is that trying to engineer a move for the forward would give an indication clearer than water 'Arry and Levy do mean business.

Maybe the boy would fancy one last challenge before he hangs his boots up with a lavely retirement starting to appear on the horizon. Then again, maybe not.

Modric Agent Fraud!

It seemed as though we were being kept well up to date regarding our prized Croat and his current status as the Club from Modric's 'agent'. Everything seemed to be fairly bright with a slight cloud heading over from Stamford Bridge.

Well, reports today are stating that this Nikki Vuksan fella isn't actually in fact Modric's agent. Crazy eh.

This is the bloke that reiterated Modders' happiness to stay at Tottenham. Most agents prize on the move of one of their clients, it brings them a few weeks in the Caribbean with cash to spare.

Anyway if these reports are true then I assume Abramovich has kidnapped Modders' real agent and is at this time waving 50's in front of his eyes until he'll force a move upon his client.

Wow oh wow. So the ball has finally started rolling. Weeks of paper talk and suddenly Abramovich has pulled 'is cheque book out to offer us a sum that that wouldn't even cover the cost of Luka's boots.

It seems even without a man at the helm at the bridge, Chelsea can still find time to move in on our player of the season. A player that some fans envisage even a princely hundred mill would fall short. Come on now, a hundred mill would bring us a host of average players to pull us back down to our old mediocre selves.

Chelsea know that we value Luka above 22mil. An irreplaceable player fetches a little more, one would assume, than an estimated 6mil above what we paid, excluding his wages. What this offer does is get the journo's jumping all over Luka's back for yet another week just to ensure he knows that Abramovich wants him.

At this rate Luka's head will be turned so far that soon enough it'll be back where it started and fully committed to Spurs. Maybe that's 'Arry's mentality anyway? It's like a girlfriend you've grown so close to starts suggesting that things aren't working when another bloke appears in the frame.

22 mil. It's not a serious offer. But now Luka knows that this reported interest is official. Levy won't be sweating just yet though.

So we've reached June, just about. I reckon half of Manchester thought they'd have their hands on Modders by now. Thankfully both 'Arry and his advisor have both drowned the noise of this stating that Luka will not go to Manchester United and he will stay at Tottenham. For now, that's enough for me.

Like many of you, NewsNow is my daily paper. Today, it was bombarded with a flurry of reports saying we'd made a €10m move for Abel Hernandez. I don't like to pre-judge. I have my entire faith in Spurs to bring the right man to lead our line next season.

Although, it did raise an eyebrow, Ancelotti style, when I read the boy had hit just three goals in 22 appearances last season. The boy must have a lot more than goals to his game to have caught Levy's eye but, admittedly, I've not had the privilege to see Abel on a football pitch.

I also glanced across a report that young Kyle Walker was set to complete another season long loan away from Spurs and return to QPR. Que another Ancelotti eyebrow raise. Why oh why would we not give this boy a chance? He was our finest right back last season, and he didn't play for us once. He's worth atleast half a chance. Why let go a player that looks a promising England full back?

You'd have to have had your head in the sand for the last month or so to be oblivious to the clear-as-glass fact that United are after Luka. It brings no surprises as the guy's been truly phenomenal in the three years he's played in the lilywhite.

So, Levy gave us the no big names will be leaving line and Luka himself welcomed the comment and reassured us that he will be at Spurs next year. Happy, satisfied, worries over? Not quite.

There seems to be an ignition point somewhere that keeps these rumours burning. Bored unadventurous journo's you may say, but something is keeping these rumours alive. It's been strongly reported today that Spurs are willing to accept £25m for our magician. 25 MIL! How much was Fernando's move to West London?

Has Levy already got the pound signs in his eyes, has Harry gone mad? We shouldn't be looking to entertain any offers. The player wants to stay. He's not stupid, he'll know of the interest surrounding him but he continues to commit to Tottenham so why oh why oh why on Earth would we give him up for a few extra quid into Levy's pocket?

I wake up almost with concern that a deal for Modric will suddenly appear on Sky Sports, it's not even June yet. Letting Modders leave will be like losing a leg, we'd be blown out the water in the race for fourth. Have a spine Levy.

Triple it, throw in Berba and Rooney then just maybe we'll have a second glance.

I'm not an anti-'Arry man. Not by a country mile. But with Chelsea reportedly sniffing about, would it be such a blow if Redknapp were to jump ship?

He's done wonders for the club. Wonders that 3 years ago when we were rotting at the foot of the Premier League we couldn't even dream of. He's brought Champions League football and the exciting brand of football back to White Hart Lane. Some may bring back the old taken us as far as 'e could phrase.

But with Redknapp hitting mid-sixties and with an England call largely expected to be on the agenda for the season after next, would it be the worst decision by Levy to allow Redknapp to manage Chelsea for a season? He'll be out the exit door if the Champions League isn't nestling in Chelsea's currently empty trophy cabinet but I'm sure he'd pocket an extra few quid a year anyway. In the words of ACDC, Money talks.

I haven't been reading into the reports to much. Levy's got a spine on him and isn't the sort to be bullied into letting 'Arry go unless he truly wanted to. For me, it's down to whether it's worth cashing in on 'Arry and at a time when we have the option of getting Ancelotti and possibly Wilkins in to replace him. Roman sees it as a failure, but I'd take second place every season.

I don't want Redknapp to leave us. But with England expected to want to get their hands on 'im anyway come 2012 and right now with the possibility of Ancelotti to move for, maybe it would make sense.

Radamel Falcao. A relatively unknown prospect until recent seasons and, after a blindin' season from the Colombian, the player's representative has revealed that Spurs have made an approach for his client.

"Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are the two clubs that are keen to sign him, and have already tabled an offer for Falcao." stated Falcao's agent

With Wenger hoping Arsenal don't do the expected and fire more blanks next year, it looks as though we find ourselves competing with the Woolwich bunch.

The player's buy-out clause is stood at a cool £26 million and it's understood we have met that. The great thing is it's not an eleventh hour bid! Getting a forward in early will help pre-season preparations as the boy becomes familiar with his role.

Although, I've never seen the bloke play but I have faith that our board will work to bring the right forward in.

"Our best season yet" lauded Redknapp, after we finally overcame a side that found themselves scrapping to keep their heads above water. Was I the only one that didn't go into this game full of optimism?

'Arry's post match comments claimed this was our best season in the Premier League. In truth and like no other, you experience more ups and downs following Spurs than you do sitting on a roller coaster, but that's all the 'fun' of following Spurs, isn't it?

This season has certainly given us memories, from the Emirates to Milan (twice) and finishing off at Anfield; via a trip to the Bernabeu. Our European adventure was almost cut short after half an hour against Young Boys but we fought, succeeded, and were rewarded with a phenomenal Champions League run. We'd have cut your hands off had a finish in the Quarter Finals been offered at the start of the season.

This season will be remembered for the memories. But, it has also been a season where we found ourselves the true victim of our own downfall. The thought back to West Ham, Wigan, West Brom and Blackpool who we failed to defeat at all this season. Birmingham, Wolves and Bolton who we failed to defeat away from home and a miserable home draw against Sunderland to top it off.

A gift is a strong word and, really, we'd handed City the gift of fourth place; or certainly at least helped them on their way. Had Joe Hart not continued his impeccable form at White Hart Lane way back in August, the story could've been written far differently for this year. The home draw against City more of less summed up our season. We couldn't break down the sides that planted 11 men in front of the ball.

We've played some wonderful football, had some of the greatest names to grace a football pitch stand against us and have been a joy to watch this year. This season could've panned out much differently but it is how it is and I've no doubt we'll give another promising go for Champions League football next year.

It's been a good season. Not our best ever.

No eyebrows raised, no second questions asked and one player that has a lillywhite bright future in North London. Modric has deservedly walked away with the Supporter Clubs Player of the Season. Even with a squad gifted with quality, for many of us there was always only going to be one winner.

On the pitch a magician. He pulls strings like no other in our side. You'd be forgiven for mistaking him to have eyes in the back of his head as his easy-on-the-eye football is joy to behold and a rare breath of fresh air that we'd lacked pre-2008.

Off the pitch the guy continues to reiterate his commitment to the cockerel he wears on his chest, for better or worse. His words sound that of a legend in the making. A rare breed of footballer that illustrates such intelligence and gives a new definition to the word genuine. A proud ambassador of Tottenham Hotspur.

He could fit into any side, but there's only one side he wants to fit into. He's irreplaceable. This guy could have his own season review DVD. Wenger, we thankyou everyday for showing little faith in the Croatian that was deemed "to small for the Premier League"

Well well well. We've had our first official piece of transfer speculation confirmed by Redknapp who openly named some of the boys he'd like to see at White Hart Lane for an enthralling Europa League campaign next year.

“I watched Hazard this week and he is a good player, but there are a few lads over here I would like to go for if we can make some openings,”

Although a deal forgiven seems to be a bridge to far, “We wouldn't get Shay Given from Man City, they don't seem to want to deal with us," Redknapp said. "We have tried before to get their players. I tried to sign Craig Bellamy but they wouldn't let him come here.

"I like Shay Given but I don't know if he's fit either. He has had a bit of a shoulder problem. It has come out a couple of times, so we will have to wait and see.

“Scott’s a top player, Footballer of the Year. I’m sure people are going to be interested in Scott.

“I know a couple of other clubs are interested, big clubs, but we will wait and see.”

Hazard and Given would be two fine signings, I've no doubt. Parker was a player we could've done pre-Sandro era and with a midfield partnership of Luka and the Brazilian I'd struggle to see where he'd fit in, unless if he's happy to keep the bench warm and is strictly a back-up.

The Drogba rumours also seem to be gaining some heat so it wouldn't be a surprise if we tried an audacious move for the forward.

Word sounding out of White Hart Lane is that, apparently, we're in for a forward. I suppose when the total number of goals scored by your forwards is so minimal that you'd be forgiven for taking one glance at it and assume our season may have ended like West Ham's. But no, we find ourselves in pole for 5th spot despite the short supply of goals our forwards have provided.

'Arry gave a little insight he'd be taking a look at the French League for an option and one name that continues to find his name in the same sentence as Tottenham Hotspur is Kevin Gameiro.; after knocking in an impressive 21 goals in 34 games for Lorient.

We need a boy that's confident in front of goal and is capable of playing up front by himself. Video's can offer only little insight and admittedly some of the teams look as though they've been taking notes on Arsenal's defending as it is dreadfully woeful against Gameiro.

Europa League a blessing in disguise?

Game 37. I'm like many of you in the sense that the Europa League is not considered high up on my Spurs agenda. I don't think our players could handle playing effectively 2 seasons next year, congrats to those who can. City's endless investment got them close but they fell short against Dynamo Kiev and with Spurs pretty much shooting a loaded gun into their foot, City finally reached Europe's top competition; I wonder if Levy's spending would stretch to a billion.

Anyway, today's result has practically opened the door to the Europa League pathway. The Championship to the Champions League. Although, winning it doesn't get you a promotion to the glamorous competition for the following season.

Was I disappointed we won today? As daft as that sounds I'm sure you could take an educated guess about where I'm coming from. But of course not, I admit an exciting score draw would've been favourable pre-match; although, like many games we've played this season, we deserved this one. We've been playing some fantastic football and today fully justified the rewards we should be earning from these games. We finally managed to find the back of the net- and without conceding first- and even scored a penalty. I'm shocked as well.

European football hasn't quite found its way to White Hart Lane just yet but it's knocking on the door. Just rewind to West Brom, Blackpool, Wigan and West Ham to name a few teams that we've failed to defeat home or away this season. Birmingham won't be an easy game. With their necks just reaching above the water they'll be all out gunning for a win and I do believe they'll give us a much sterner challenge than Liverpool today.

If we do find ourselves stuck in the Europa League it won't be all doom and gloom. It's clearer than water we need a forward and, to be blunt, European football would aid that arrival. Levy would also pocket a few extra quid as well.

Thoughts.

Last night confirmed we will not enjoy consecutive seasons touching shoulders with Europe's elite next year but, really, we'd known this effectively after we conceded late at home to the Baggies a few weeks back. After Crouch had made the trip back feel even longer for us, it wasn't the usual disappointment and frustration after a defeat that I experienced on the way back but, strangely enough, more content.

It was there for us to see that Harry has laid down the real foundations of a top four side. The way we controlled the game, found pockets of space inside City's half and had everyone playing on the same wave length and the team playing as a team. It was a pleasure to watch and I was pleased that we made a good account of ourselves.

Last night once more left the obvious, gaping cry that a forward is needed. A complete forward. A forward that can battle through defences, score goals and make space for the likes of Vdv, Bale, Lennon and Modric to move into. Our Croatian magician pulling the strings once more and and linking up well with the midfield around him, outshining the likes of David Silva in the process. It was also comforting having a keeper in Cudicini just doing the basics and not finding his way onto the back pages like his South American colleague. Although, City only had about two shots on goal anyway.

I do believe we are a better side than City, but our record against teams in the lower tiers of the Premier League mean we are nine points short of them. Harry out? Don't be stupid. It would be like losing a star player. He's got us playing some of the most promising football for years, it's not his fault that our forwards are incapable of grabbing their chances in front of goal. He couldn't have anticipated that Jermain would get injured in September and miss 3 months of the season. Jermain knocked in a total of 30 goals last season with even crouch knocking in a few, a new striker didn't appear as urgent as it does now.

This isn't the first time and it won't be the last time I'll say this, but next season could prove promising. We have the midfield in place, a good back four that may need a slight tweaking and, with a summer window which will hopefully see the arrival atleast of a forward and a goalkeeper, I've no doubt we'll be back up there next year.

I don't know what it was about the Blackpool fixture but after City conceded defeat in Everton and presented us with a slight glimmer of hope of catching them, I could never really see us beating Blackpool. We haven't won since.. Stoke?

Last year you could always feel the belief around the ground in any home game. But now the players just seem burnt out, demotivated, and resigned to a 6th place finish. Had we won today we've had sat 4 points behind City, of whom we play on Tuesday and 3 ahead of Liverpool. It would have set us up nicely. But, this is Spurs we're talking about and, of course, we can't beat sides who are fighting for their lives at the foot of the Premier League.

It was a bad day all round. Probert's performance was very poor. To many late tackles going unpunished and one finally sent Bale home on a stretcher, thanks to Charlie Adam coming in late and stamping on Bale's ankle; he arguably shouldn't have even been on the pitch.

This game summed up Gomes as a player. One fantastic save made only to throw it down the drain along with our chances of fourth. A rush of blood and suddenly another spot kick is soon dispatched.

Bale and Rose played some fantastic balls in for our forward's who were unable to finish. Surprise bloody surprise. We've just about tied the bow on fourth place for City and should we repeat today's performance on Tuesday, we'll present it to them at Eastlands.

Not finishing fourth this year is more painful to take due to bringing on our own downfall. Failing to beat sides in the bottom six, home or away. I don't even want to know how many points we've lost to teams at the foot of the table, I just know it's too many. Failing to bring in a striker in January. Not taking our chances. We thought last year we'd flushed the 'old Spurs' out of our system, but it seems to be creeping back into the side.

1 loyalty point for City on Tuesday. I feel I should be compensated with 50, then this game might have half a reason to go to. Fighting for the Europa league, is it worth it?

Harry on Lennon

I'd read lately of some sort of divide between Harry and Aaron Lennon. It caused little concern but concern it did cause. Lennon is a player that we should be looking to keep hold of and not look to cash in on.

Despite not an amazing goal scoring or assist record this season, the guy is still a phenomenal threat down the right. Our strikers haven't been taking their chances so there's argument that Lennon's record would look a lot more appealing had our forwards been finishing.

Anyway, Harry looked to ensure any concern was dampened when question on the subject today.

"Aaron's got a good future here. I've never had a problem with him. What problems were they? I must have missed them.

"The kid wasn't well he couldn't play that night he was ill. It wasn't Aaron's fault it wasn't anyone's fault.

"10 minutes before kick-off he'd been feeling ill in the aft. He went out for the warm-up, came back and didn't feel at all well. He said 'I might last only 10 minutes'.

"What can you do? I've never had a minute's problem with Aaron Lennon. He's good as gold."

We have a fine midfield. A midfield that compliment one another and we shouldn't look to disrupt that. Just a forward would be nice. Maybe even a new keeper?

I'm that confident. We will not lose our few diamonds that shine amongst the coppers. Luka, Bale, Rafa I do believe will all be playing in the lilywhite next season unless, of course, a monster bid comes in. A bid so big that even Levy would sport a grin stretching the width of his face. A bid so big that Fernando Torres would be made to look as though Chelsea bought him from the bottom shelf of a Poundland. But, in all honesty, I cant see anyone considering this. So, how's about a change of formation?

It's not the first time Iv raised this question. I'll probably raise it again in the summer. But I do feel that with the players we have in the side we are best suited to a 4-3-3. With a midfield consisting of Modric, Sandro, Raf, Lennon and Bale it would be hard to demote any of those to the bench.

So here we go:

Sandro and Modric alongside each other already look a natural pairing. Both tireless in the middle of the park and both willing to drive forward (when 'Arry let's Sandro of course) and help out Daws and Gallas at the back. As much as I do rate Tommy, Sandro is a far more complete player and should be playing ahead of him.

Will Gomes be our keeper next year? Even through his early spell I was hoping we'd keep hold of him as his days in Holland showed what he is capable of. Now, even I'm considering whether he'll be starting next season. Right now I'd rather Given was stuck between the sticks.

Give Walker a shot at right back, he deserves it.

Get a powerful prolific forward in. Easy.

Keeping the bulk of the squad for next season will be key. Hopefully by the time we're writing our Christmas list this year we'll be pushing 4th once more and have a forward that's already knocked in 15 premier league goals.

We can all dream can't we?

Unbelievable

I'm rarely drawn to blog at half time but after the wall took some beating I feel it necessary to take out my rage in a more productive manner.

Half time approaches and we've got our tactics spot on. Couldn't fault anyone. In my opinion we've more than matched Chelsea and were successfully shutting down their one dimensional play. Then, once more, the man in the middle has to spoil it; well, rather the guy running up and down on the touchline.

Gomes stops the ball on the line but, unsurprisingly, Chelsea are given a get out of jail free card as the goal is wrongly awarded. No one's 100% and the linesman decides to give it from the reaction of the prawn sandwich brigade who finally make themselves heard.

How ridiculous.

The ball wasn't over, we'd played a brilliant first half but of course one man has to ruin that.

UPDATE.

The second half came and you could see that Frank's 'goal' really knocked the life out of the side. You could almost see another Chelsea goal coming although, Frank, I do disagree. You didn't deserve it. Only one side scored a legitimate goal in this game and that was not Chelsea.

Chelsea struggled to come up with any meaningful ideas and Gomes was hardly tested significantly in the second half.

Salt was ground into the wounds as Chelsea stuck the ball in the net once more and the linesman's flag remained down by his side. The amount of money invested in this sport and yet still not a penny invested into goal line technology in the Premier League.

Although, I hate how we've almost handed City 4th. Our record against the teams in the bottom half of the Premier League is exceptionally poor. But, should we keep hold of the bulk of our squad (which i do expect we will) and trim down the fringes, I do believe we can mount another challenge for Champions League Football.

Sandro to be regularly playing alongside Modric next season will be key. Today showed the fantastic potential these two have in the heart of the Spurs midfield and with a half decent striker that can hit the target for next year, we're fully capable of pushing for it again.

Id also push through a 4-3-3 next year as this would suit the type of players we have at the club

Where's this karma we're owed after Mendes' goal at Old Trafford then?

Cup Final Day

And it's not looking to promising. After this weekend we could find ourselves 7 points short of Citeh with the ground we stand on becoming increasingly more hollow as Liverpool keep their eyes firmly fixed on 5th spot.

Chelsea. Away. The annoying thing is now they genuinely believe they're still in the title race and are not the same side that Sunderland turned over 3-0 in West London. We've pretty much handed ourselves a coach ticket to next year's Europa League and we'd have to pull a hell of a rabbit out the hat to stand any chance of riding first class in Europe's elite competition next year.

Had we finished off West Brom last week I'd still feel we were in a good position to challenge Citeh for 4th but, of course, we gave Cox the freedom of White Hart Lane to pick his spot.

My prediction? We look flat, lack the hunger and desire that we'd boasted in the last year or so and the players seem resigned to excepting their fate. 3-0 blues. It's the brutal reality that we're playing a side in top form when we've just found ourselves on a downhill slope made of ice.

At a point where we'd given ourselves a fantastic opportunity in which to overtake Manchester City in 4th, however momentarily; we've once more quite incredibly packed it away, thrown it in the bin and watched it depart for a landfill site.

We brought on our own downfall. Sloppy at the back. No real momentum from Wednesday and, in comparison, half the boys looked as though they'd turned up expecting to enjoy the day in the sun at the Lane instead of being paid to do their job.

The injury to Ekotto inside the first 5 minutes, I do believe, helped play its part in the game. Bale looked in two minds about prioritising attack or defence and in the end failed to excel in either. I still pose the question over why Lennon was thrown out onto the left. West Brom had a field day down their left flank facing Kaboul as Rafa's nature tends to bring him inside and they posed their biggest threat down this flank.

Lennon should've been put out into his usual position on the right and was ineffective on the left. Despite Pav scoring before half time, he was still sloppy with his chances and should've made way for Lennon soon after half time. He looked off balance, failed to read the game and link up well with any of the midfield or Defoe.

Defoe hardly got going throughout the game but still managed to find the net finally, only to see his effort cancelled out with 10 or so minutes remaining. We failed to close down West Brom and allowed them to play their game in front of our 18 yard box. We looked nervy at the back and no one looked willing to stick in the challenges.

We looked flat and exhausted. We gave away to much space. We were outnumbered on the right for large periods of the game and it's cost us 2 points. We've probably just about given up 4th, Monday's result depending.

Reminiscent of last season's antics, we once again found ourselves within touching distance of that final Champions League place; with just the blue side of Manchester standing in our way. Had City not entertained a mass investment a few years ago does leave the 'what if' factor about whether we would be regularly finishing 4th for the next few years atleast but, of course, money changes everything.

With Carrick gift wrapping City a ticket to the final, this does leave them playing us 4 days before their big day at Wembley. We are due to face City at Eastlands on Tuesday 10th May with the final being held in London on the 14th.

Mancini's already spoken of fatigue amongst his multi-millionaires and, with intense pressure to deliver a truck load silverware within the next few years, Saturday provides a solid platform to deliver their first especially with arguably a surprise opponent in Stoke City.

With Arsenal, West Brom, Chelsea and Blackpool to play before the game at Eastlands, of course, we could be out of the running by the 10th May; but the timing of our fixture at City, I believe, gives us a fantastic advantage to overcome them once more.

We're well in to the business end of the season. City aren't the only one's having to play a cup final this season. We have 7 of them remaining.

Arsenal next. Avoiding defeat is vital.

The Ade chant. Yeah, the one about his dad and elephants. It's not pleasant. Although why, after seemingly tolerating it for years, the bloke decides to raise it after our calamity in Madrid when it's almost a dead cert that we are one of a few clubs that have chanted about his family.

I don't like it and it's clearly not working as the former Arsenal-hero-turned-villain man can't stop scoring against us. We show great love and pride when supporting the lilywhites, home or away, and there are far better ways to support the club than aim a pointless chant at one of the opposition players.

I fail to see the point. It only seems to spur the guy on to continue hitting the back of our net. Let's not give the FA a stupid excuse to get Spurs into trouble, it's not worth it. There are more effective ways to support our boys and that's what we should be doing. We need to get fully behind the boys on Wednesday if, more than anything, for pride and even if (when) we don't qualify if we could win the game it would give us a real boost for the remains of the business end of the season.

I'm sure that through various means you are well aware the PFA Player of the Year shortlist was revealed with two of our top boys of the season sitting comfortably among the outstanding performers of this Premier League season.

Bale and van der Vaart joined Charlie Adam, Samir Nasri, Carlos Tevez and Scott Parker on the shortlist. Hardly the biggest names in world football but an honest list altogether. Of course, the shortlist can only hold a set number of names and there are many players that could've also found their way on to it.

For me, one small surprise was the omission of Luka Modric. Following Spurs has, obviously, made it easy to cast a hawk-eye view over each of our performers this season, and the Croatian has definitely been one of- if not the- most consistent performers in a Spurs shirt this year. It's easy to see the class in every touch, how he drifts past players- knife through butter stuff- and the ability to spot a pass and read the game.

He'd be the first to concede he hardly brings a shed load of goals , but he brings others into the game; he lays the foundations in which others build on; a lot of our moves start with him and the boy never stops running. He shows that you don't always need to score goals to be a successful central midfielder. He's having a fantastic season, and I'd bet my house that he'll only get better.

Still though, that's my view. Many of yours will be different.

Wow. All that hope and optimism that flew to Spain with the thousands of Spurs fans seemed to depart the field of play when Crouchy did on 15 minutes; closely followed by a 'thanks for coming' from Mourinho. It was one of those 'everything that could've gone wrong, went wrong' days which began when Lennon failed to make the starting 11 and the dreaded sight of seeing Jermain Jenas line-up against Los Blancos dampened the spirits slightly. Another dodgy Lasagne?

It was a bitter blow to concede so early. Conceding from a corner that should never have occurred. Modric grounded to the floor on half way for only the referee to wave play on and, 40 seconds later, we find ourselves already one down. I also didn't appreciate the consistent body checking on Bale from Ramos who managed to slip away from a yellow card which would've incurred a suspension for the return leg next week.

I still find myself asking the question as to why we insisted on giving Madrid so much space 18 yards from Gomes' net; why we didn't double up on Ronaldo or Di Maria and allowed Madrid to roll the ball in front of us in such strong areas of the field. How do we find ourselves in the Champions League quarters yet concede two goals that even school boys would be disappointed in conceding? How can we defend so poorly after 3 consecutive clean sheet (admittedly against weaker opposition)?

You could see the hunger in Crouchy's eyes; I suppose there's a first for everything. He seemed so resolute in the short time he was on. But then the idiot got himself sent off. Although I don't single out just Crouch at all for the defeat, it certainly contributed. The game plan out the window before the games started and Spurs left to wonder how 15 minutes into the game and Lennon and Crouch aren't on the field.

Another defender lost in the shape of Charlie capped off, in Gallas' words, the 'worst night.' We weren't good enough and we didn't help ourselves.

I'm sure the name needs no explanation. Guillem Balague, Spanish football's answer to the late Andy Gray, has had his precious words of advice for our boys as they travel to Madrid. Whilst watching Madrid fall flat at home against Sporting and, at the same time, see Mourinho's 9 year unbeaten home run slip away faster than West Ham's lead on Saturday, Balague tweeted his insight into what he believes Spurs have to do to stand a chance against Los Blancos.

"Spurs should look to exploit the space behind centre backs. Clearly their main weakness. If fit,Crouch, Lennon and Defoe should start.No vdv

"Goodbye Mou 9year home record, goodbye Liga. 0-1 Sporting won.But steady,Spurs fans.U gonna c a different Madrid. Still very much favourites"

I never read to much into what's said pre-match. We just have to look at this as another game. It is vital that the back four and Gomes perform as well as they did on the latter trip to the San Siro. Whatever happens in Spain tomorrow night, this season we have played against some of the greatest names in world football. We have competed against some of the greatest players to ever grace a football pitch and have proven to the world that we are capable to cut it in the big league.

The Champions League has shown our progression as a club over the last few decades, and the fantastic building (or rebuilding) process that has taken place under the close eye of Levy and Redknapp.

But it doesn't have to end at this stage.

Today's Predicament

So, this season, we've taken 1 point from a possible 6 from Wigan. A side that are sitting at the foot of the Premier League. I'll give you a moment to take that in. Today's game leaves us 3 points off of City who play Sunderland tomorrow. So what went wrong?

On a rare, possibly unexpected, note was that I do not blame the forwards for failing to find the Net that sat untouched behind Al Habsi's goal. The lack of support from the midfield was clearly evident in respect for creating chances going forward and this is unusual. The omission of Lennon and Bale truly had a greater multiplier effect on the side as Modric and Rafa were thrown out wide.

Wigan played well. I dare say that, had we walked away from the DW today with 3 points, it would've been a flattering one. But, nonetheless, for a side looking to reach Europe's elite competition once again, today's game only shone a favourable light onto Eastlands. Leaving their fate, more assuringly, firmly in their own grasp.

Jenas needs to leave any talk of England back home, where hopefully he'll leave his passport, when the other boys depart for Madrid. He slowed the game down to about my mother's walking pace and didn't bring anything to the side today. Whereas Sandro, once more, played out his skin. Read the game like a child's easy-to-read book. And left us in awe at the phenomenal amount of potential the Brazilian just continues to show.

Although Modric oozed brilliance once more in place of Bale, it doesn't take much to see that he is best utilised in the middle of the pitch. I'd have started Niko on the left and left Luka sitting alongside Sandro. I also felt for JD when his number was lit up and he was taken off. When he was given the ball it was wide of the pitch, not ideal for any forward.

We're going to have to string more than two passes together to stand any chance in Madrid. I'd hope to see Jenas left out and, hopefully, Bale and Lennon thrown back into the side.

Spurs set to sign 'new Bale' - Reports

Reports today have flooded in claiming Spurs have won the race to bring in Crawley's 18 year old left winger Alex Attrill, regarded as the 'new Bale' by the Crawley Observer and Crawley News. The youth player, who was due to start university in September and can be found on the popular computer game FM 11 (before he's released from the game after about a month), had been closely monitored by a number of clubs including big boys Luton, Wrexham and Oxford United, plus a number of 6 a side teams. Despite strong interest, it is thought the opportunity to sit on the bench to watch Spurs play every week was an opportunity he couldn't say no to.

"I can't believe it!" The player told the Crawley News. "I didn't even make the first team at Crawley and thought my career had finished before it started"

"I'm gonna have to tell the boys that I'll have to give the 6 a side a miss in the summer" he added.

Clearly a shy boy with few words. Although Ian Broomfield, who reportedly spotted Attrill just having a kick about in the local park whilst visiting his mother, definitely feels that Attrill could add something to the side and expects him to be challenging for a place in the first team by the young age of 26-27. He's that good. Attrill's current striker rate of 2 goals in 22 appearances for Crawley's development squad and 1 goal in 11 for the under 18's further show he'd bring a real goal threat to North London.

Another exciting prospect that could be thrown into the first team within just 10 years time. We may not finish in that lucrative 4th spot this season, but atleast this signing is something to look forward to.

Lukaku could go to Spurs

A big statement about a big boy. 17 year old Romelu Lukaku believes his playing days in the near future lie in one of the hands of the Premier League big boys, and Liverpool.

Anderlecht's main man believes the boy will ply his trade at teams "like" Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool. I couldn't tell you how many other teams are "like" the one's just mentioned so I guess he s just referring to these.

My view? Get the boy in. He will score goals, he's confident and, at 17, Levy should be able to find the cash in his back pocket to cover his wages. Well, you'd think anyway.

€30 million. It's an investment and one that will pay off more earlier than later; I'm sure. The Premier League's a physical league and it doesn't take Ian Broomfield to tell you that this kid has a build similar to that of Drogba's.

£20m for Mourinho move

José Mário dos Santos Félix Mourinho. You'd have to have had your head in the sand if you're unaware of the name. With an ego matching, possibly topping, the size of Tower Bridge, Mourinho has named his price for any English clubs showing an early interest in him. Expensive is an understatement.

The Madrid boss, who's set to take his seat at White Hart Lane in just over two weeks time, is reported to demand a salary reaching an incredible £20m a year and a Manchester City-esque transfer budget of £150m. According to the Express, two potential suitors of the Premier League have already shown a valid interest in the old Chelsea boss.

Somehow I couldn't see Levy's pockets reaching this deep. The potential £170m first year expense to bring the bloke to Spurs may prove to be the wind that blows us out the water as our muscle financially is reminiscent of a boxing match between that of Ramires and Hatton; a pay-per-view one of course. But, in the end, Spurs wouldn't stand a chance with this level of expenditure.

Worth the money? No. We'd have to win a lot in our first season and win the league come the second before the move becomes even considered justified. It doesn't quite make business sense but a lot can change in a year and a half. That's my hope anyway. No doubt that he'd be more than welcome at White Hart Lane, maybe not when he visits in two weeks though.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels a weekend without Premier League football is a long one. Although, I still experience nerves on a similar level when a Spurs player steps out in the colours of their country. A repeat of September time in which we lost Jermain and Daws is not what we need; not now. It was good to see Daws complete an excellent game alongside JT, despite the opposition fairing more as a Championship side than an international one.

But anyway, David Moyes. Considering 'Arry is still with us and, in my opinion anyway, would be a common fool to leave, we have already begun speculating who will be in charge of Spurs come the 2012/2013 season. It gives a new definition to premature. We know Harry likes to send the media on the wrong path with his words and I still don't believe it's a dead cert he'll jump into the impossible job with England.

Speculation regarding the replacement has seen David Moyes' name thrown into the pit. A man manager that has built a solid side at Everton whilst working on a limited budget at the same time. Moyes isn't the glamorous European experienced head that would rub alongside Mourinho but could work well with a side like Spurs. 'Arry was the same, no Champions League with just then Uefa cup experience to his name; and valuable relegation-fighting-and-survival skills

I could see the Scot wanting a new challenge should Spurs make a generous offer to Everton, but that's my opinion. Although unlikley, I do feel that the Spurs job would be Mourinho's perfect job. Winning silverware at Spurs would be held in far higher regard than that of United. But there is the smaller matter that he is regarded as one of the best coaches in the world and wages would mean that Levy would have a task and a half to get their hands on him.

I do feel that, by far, it is to early to discuss such a matter. But, with international's taking place, who could you see as Redknapp's replacement should he leave Spurs?

Harry's problem.. and it's not Bale.

No, it's not Bale straining his hamstring. Tommy looks set to be fit to face Wigan next weekend and, with Sandro and Luka forming a good partnership in midfield, it will give 'Arry a few headaches with how to accomodate all three.

Of course, there's a level of doubt around whether Tom would start anyway but, come the remaining games in this rollercoaster season, who will be the unlucky one to be left out? Sandro's already looking a star in the heart of the midfield with class just oozing off of Luka in every shift he puts in. With Van der vaart also looking in good shape to be one of the signings of the season, 'Arry's left with a nice dilemma (finally) sitting in his hands.

If I was standing in Harry's shoes, I'd be tempted to keep Sandro in the side. You cannot doubt the quality of Thudd but with a boy on such a good run of form, he doesn't deserve to lose his place in the side. I'd also be keen to incorporate a new formation and see how this works (as below)

4-1-2-2-1. With Bale and Lennon hugging the touchline and playing further up the pitch and with Rafa encouraged to slot in between them when we attack, we remain a real threat up top. Although, with 3 players packing the centre of midfield, the system would also prove affective in stopping the opposition play and allowing them no space.

Tommy returning can only be a good thing. We've hardly lacked class in midfield, but numbers were beggining to look short especially after Palacios picked up an injury.

Disaster if we don't make top four?

The signs of late haven't looked to promising that 4th spot will have our name printed on it this season. Although City of late have looked sloppy and 'tired', poor guys, we've hardly been taking the chances to really push ourselves into the European places. 2 points from Blackpool, Wolves and West Ham of late? That's not top four.

Last year we looked to have all but missed out on 4th spot but then fought back to beat Chelsea, Arsenal and City at their place and since then, the rest is (ccurently becoming) history.

Following Redknapp's comments stating it 'wouldn't be a disaster if we don't make Champions League this year,' how do you feel about it? Disaster is a strong word. I think it would be more of a disappointment if we missed out but it's hardly a disaster. A disaster is relegation.

If we can keep hold of the squad we have currently and possibly bring in a new centre half and forward then we have every chance of success and silverware in the future. City are looking as though they're crumbling lately and no one should write us off just yet.

One more opportunity dropped down the drain as we fell short at home to West Ham with a goalless draw. Hopeless, we can't seem to buy a goal and when we score 3 we concede the same amount. Defoe and vdv looked slow and desperate with Jermain squandering opportunities that Sandra probably could've scored.

Pav looked good when he came on and Modric was class as ever. We should worry about the teams below us before chasing the one's above. Good performance, dire finishing; sums up today.

If Defoe could find the net then it wouldn't have been one of those days and we'd now be sitting level on points with Chelsea.

So I've stolen a minute or two from work as I wanted to grab your initial thoughts on the draw with Madrid. When my eyes first saw Spurs drawn alongside Real I couldn't help but smile. We've had some of the greatest players grace White Hart Lane and yet still we march on.

The quarters and semi's really does give a new meaning to the phrase 'doing it the hard way' but I'm sure deep down, we all know Spurs' path was never leading to a more favourable draw.

No one expects us to triumph. We don't expect to triumph but all I hope is that we give them a game. We've show we're more than capable of challenging and competing with the best. We deserve to be here. We won't go the Arsenal way and sit, we will attack Madrid; that's what I love about Tottenham.

Even the thought back to Upton Park this season when we visited those East Londoner's still gives me the occasional groan and a tut as West Ham walked away from their cup final having finally taken 3 points off us for the first time in years. Celebrating like they'd won the league, it's unsurprising that they still lurk in the bottom 3 of the Premier League as they struggle to climb up the table.

Injuries proved instrumental in re-shaping our side thus playing a big part in this result that day. Hutton at full back with Corluka and Bass sitting inside with Bale restricted to left back. Modric thrown out on to the flank of midfield and we ran into 'one of those days' in which no one ever really got going at a time when Green, after looking for long enough, found a rare patch of good form. Shame.

Bottom 3 sides have a way of sticking the bus in front of their goal at the Lane and, as much as West Ham probably won't want to do it, this will be their best bet of walking away with anything this week. My only issue would be Daws' partner at the heart of the defence. Gallas looks crocked for a month or so and it looks as though Bass will slot in. I'm not a fan of Bassong. The boy still looks nervy at the back and at times you do wonder whether he plays with two left feet.

But anyway, let's not underestimate them. This is another chance to really stick the pressure back on to City's and Chelsea's backs as they play each other after us this weekend. A fully fit Bale with Rafa and Defoe given a chance up top would suit me. Easy.

Where will Spurs finish this season?

We've heard it from the boss. We've heard it from the players. From 'Premier League Champions' reduced to 'miracles' for 4th spot, where does our fate lie this season? From tearing apart European Champions to torn apart at Fulham, there never is an easy game in our fixture list. Rarely a game goes by where the finger nails aren't torn to shreds and the anxiety shouts louder than any Spurs fan.

With Gomes the latest Spur vowing to ensure we are not watching the Champions League 'from the outside next season,' every 90 minutes that we endure each week provides us, the fans, the opportunity to argue and decide where they believe Spurs will sit come full time of the Birmingham game. We're usually left bewildered as we beat Arsenal in their back garden for only then to struggle up at Blackpool and Wolves. Struggle is a strong word but 1 point from 6 screams louder than anything else.

With our growing improvement falling in the same time constraint as City's spending, it is inevitable that we've had to work harder to ensure we are amongst the best and are still in the fight for Europe's lucrative competition once more next season. This, despite exploiting successfully Liverpool's drop from Champions League winners to Europa League battlers and moving in to set up on the turf in the top 4 that they had nestled comfortably in for the last few years before last season.

So, where will we finish? We have a Champions League squad although we sit in 5th spot and the pessimistic view acquired from years of misery in my lifetime is proving to be the driving force in believing that this is where we'll sit come the end of May; this closely followed with folded arms, grumpy faces and a whole summer of Modric, Rafa and Bale linked with 50 clubs a piece.

With City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool still to face, you could say it's in our own hands and we should look to take advantage of these opportunity's. Although, Blackpool illustrated that we don't have the biggest hand when it comes to grabbing golden chances.

But you never know what you're gonna get with Spurs. That's what you've got to love. Haven't you?

The endless list of transfer targets was cut short ever so slightly this evening as another Brazilian decided to follow Ronaldinho back to his homeland.

Luis Fabiano has ventured back to Sao Paulo for around €7.6 million. The 30 year old, who has a record of 118 goals in 160 appearances for the side, had this to say:

"Money is not everything in life. Nothing could pay for how happy I am to once again be able to wear the shirt of the team closest to my heart.

"I owe everything I have to Sao Paulo. I'm going to sweat for this shirt and I'm going to score many goals. I'm already thinking about coming out of the dressing room tunnel at the Morumbi stadium."

The boy brought very mixed reviews amongst Spurs fans and split us almost as much as Gallas did when he turned up at Spurs lodge. It wouldn't have been the worst move to see how the boy got on in the Premier League and would've hit the back of the net a fair few times.

For €7.6million id have liked to see us take a punt although the chances of him joining were slimmer than Arsenal winning all 4 trophies at the start of the season.

Ledley's season could be over; Hudd and Kab in training

'Arry gave talkSPORT an update on all things Spurs tonight speaking about Ledley's, Hudd's and Kaboul's fitness ahead of another week off before West Ham next week.

Regarding Ledley, 'Arry said that our crocked centre half was lucky to be in the squad for Milan and pointed out the fact that the consequences of playing with his injury are finally catching up with him.

“He’s got a problem with his groin and I’m not sure really,” said the Spurs boss. “I took a gamble with him last night, but I don’t know.

“He’s got away with not training all week and playing on Saturday but I think it’s starting to catch up on him now. You can’t keep doing that forever, you have to train.

“It’s crazy that you can not train once all week and then come in on a Saturday and be the best player. Now he’s finding it more difficult - suddenly he’s starting to pick up a few more injures.

“We’re just keeping our fingers crossed for him and Jonathan Woodgate because they’re two fantastic centre-halves. We’re lucky that Michael Dawson has been brilliant and William Gallas has come in for us and done a great job for us as well.”

He further added that Tommy had started "running again" and that Kaboul was "back in training" and both of 'em were close to a return. With a sigh of relief.

With 9 games in April, according to Redknapp, we'll need a full team to pick from. April will define our season.

AC Milan

It wasn't pretty. At time you found your heart concealed in your mouth as the minutes ticked on and the game remained goalless. Milan came out as I'd expected; gave us little space in which to operate with and played the game in our half. A much stronger performance from that of the one back in the San Siro where we looked a lot more comfortable.

Spurs, on the other hand, found themselves chasing most of the game.. and the shadows of the Rossoneri. This was the first time in the Champions League in which we were favourites for the game. Despite being told to "attack 'em from the off" the boys looked nervy and unwilling to over commit. Strange how, inadvertently, the 1-0 lead almost worked against us.

Desperate for a goal, Milan engineered and dictated much more of the play. Although, they found shots on goal restricted with nothing clear cut opening up for them. This, due to the back 4 sticking their necks out and getting at Milan and Sandro helping out to protect Gomes between the sticks.

Sandro already looks a star. Right now. If this boy continues impressing he could go a long way in the lilywhite and sit in our midfield for years to come. Absolutely fantastic again tonight.

Heat-in-your-mouth stuff. It's in our DNA. It's the Tottenham way and how we love to make thing's harder for ourselves. The game showed that we can keep clean sheets when there is so much at stake and congratulations to the boys who battled all day and found their way through.

I heard Gattuso was found punching his kitchen floor back in Milan after the result?

Barca, Madrid, United? Naa, I'd take Schalke in the Quarters.

After away games at both Wolves and Blackpool we have returned having shipped 6 goals which included 2 penalties. Daws and Gallas looked unusually shaky at the back against Wolves, struggling to cope with bog standard whipped balls into the box that they've been thrown up against for many years now. Although, my current primary concern is that of right back. Once dominated for so long by Charlie, this position has become one of vulnerability and the lack of a quality player there has cost us this season.

Walker, currently on loan at Villa, has proved phenomenal for the Midlands side. At QPR he looked a natural, slotting into the first team and helping guide QPR to top of the Championship. Any neutral upon glance would've thought the boy had been playing there for years; he's not 21 this bloke.

I hope 'Arry sees sense and gives this boy a good run in the team next year. It's worthless loaning out younger and reserve players if they're not going to be used and this boy could be a real asset to Spurs next year. One marginal concern of mine would be that, with Lennon sitting in front, such an attacking right hand side of the pitch may leave us caught every now and then but that's football.

This boy will be a star.

Not the most composed performance ever taken place by a Spurs side, but not the worst one either. Jermain showed us he's finally found the goal and stuck the ball in it for the first time in the league this season. A rare note saw our back four let us down today as 2 points were stolen in the 87th minute.

Sandro looked a natural in our midfield alongside Jenas without really sticking a foot wrong; although, could've been culpable for Wolves' 1st. Pav looked a little off pace today; was his touch heavy or did I watch he whole game in slow mo? Not the best from our centre forward but still bagged a goal.

The return of Bale was a sight we've been waiting for for a while now as he stepped off the treatment table and showed us a little of what we'd missed. All in all we through it away. Basics at the back cost us with Daws, Gallas and Hutton looking a little shaky in Wolves today. Well, Hutton giving us what we've come to expect from him this season, not much.

Not the most sturdy platform in which to set up a game with Milan on, but a platform none the less.

Sandro to start

I only recently noticed that we have a big game at home on Wednesday against the table toppers of Italy, big being the understatement. 1-0, as nice as it is to have the goal advantage, I hope it doesn't dictate the way we set out and play against Milan which, knowing 'Arry, I can't see that being the case. Attack is the best form of defence.

But with this game slowly emerging from around the corner, it seems 'Arry's taking precautions; Rafa's set to miss the game at Molineux. So, who to stick where? Sandro. Until about a year ago you could probably have counted on one hand the number of Spurs fans that had heard of this boy.

In his first full game for us he bullied the Midfield giants of Milan; Gattuso resorted to picking a fight with firstly the pitch and then with Joe as he found crossing half way a difficult feat to accomplish.

This boy slotted naturally alongside Palacios and, soon enough, most pre-match nerves had vanished along with Milan's composure. He looked assured. Wolves will battle just as hard as Milan did but will probably give us more of a game. Sandro, starting alongside Wilson with Modric just in front, assuming they're all fit, in a 4-5-1 would be my option.

Let's just hope we score a bloody goal this time, preferably from a striker as well.

'Arry gave Danny Kelly of talksport a peek into the fitness of Bale, but you still never know with back problems. Our boss told Danny that he may give Bale about "alf an hour on Sunday' hinting that our young Welshman could be fit to face the boys from Milan for the crucial second leg at the Lane.

I'm still in two minds about Harry's comments. It wouldn't be the first- or tenth- time he's tried to scare opponents this way. Wasn't Bale all set to face Milan at the San Siro? 'Oh wait no sorry he's still another 3 or so weeks away' is what he forgot to add on the end of his statement.

Not the worst tactic in the world but I can bet my house, my car and my wife that I'm not the only Spurs fan hoping Bale will be fully fit for the Champions League game on Wednesday; getting half an hour against Wolves would be a bonus, but a win against Wolves is a must.

Harry Kane?

I'm sure I'm not the only one that's been keeping a relatively sharp eye on our boys among the youth ranks this season. One for me that has grabbed my attention is young English forward Harry Kane. The 17 year old notched up 18 goals in 22 games in the youth league last year and has since enjoyed a good spell at Orient this season hitting the net 4 times in 6 appearances.

Maybe this season has come about to quickly for the kid, but the boy is certainly showing promise. He seems a natural in front of goal and, if 'Arry sticks with us for a longer spell than feared, his coaching along with the rest of the backroom staff could prove decisive in setting up a platform for the 17 year old to succeed.

We've been scarce of goals this season and I do believe that it provides the younger forwards atleast half a chance to push themselves into the first team and to be given a chance with the big boys.

Spurs have only minutes ago released a statement saying:

Jermain Defoe will return to training on the squad's return home this week after undergoing x-rays on his foot following his participation in today's (Monday, February 28) session.

The x-rays were clear and the striker is expected to rest tomorrow as a precaution to allow any possible soft tissue irritation to settle.

Worries over. Another player lying on the injury table is the last thing we need, but we still sit fourth.

Wolves next up.

Spurs boys take holiday.

The first team squad have been taken to Dubai ahead of the break before the Wolves and Milan games taking place respectively on the 6th and 9th of March.

"We've travelled a bit recently and the boys have been absolutely flat out so we thought it was better to get them out of the place and come to Dubai to freshen them up a bit," Redknapp said during a surprise visit to Meydan Racecourse.

"We'll do a bit of light training, just to keep them ticking and focused. But by and large they're free to do what they want and perhaps even get a bit of colour."

Light training? Our strikers need shooting practice for atleast half the bleein' day to keep us sitting in 4th spot. Sunday's game at Wolves could prove crucial, especially if Chelsea pick up a win against United. Let's hope that Dubai sun does the boys a favour.

I could do with a holiday now.
