Why have Spurs rushed it?

So we drafted in Bassong for around £8m yesterday from the 'new Leeds'. He's been pictured in a Spurs shirt and has already given his first interview on Spurs TV online which we can now all enjoy thanks to the generosity of Tottenham giving us the privilege of a free trail. Isn't that kind.

Although, I seem to recall our latest signing receiving a red card in Newcastle's home defeat to Fulham obviously resulting in a suspension. The appeal that followed was also rejected- I guess nothing goes your way when your at the bottom, eh. Bassong missed Newcastle's final Premier League game away to Villa but this still means he has at least one game he is unavailable for.

So, as the most obvious of obvious questions is asked.. why did we sign him when we did and why not wait until after the Championship began? This would have meant Seb would have missed Newcastle's game against the Baggies tomorrow and not ours against Liverpool. Was this just naivety from the Spurs board, were they unaware of the suspension?

Even so, the deals done now and, as a result, we have another centre back who is unavailable for the start of the season.

Regards

  1. The registration wont be put through till after newcastles game. Just because he's pictured in a spurs shirt doesnt mean the paperworks been completed.

  2. Delaying the signing, whilst dealing with the suspension, would have given Seb less time to integrate with the team. As things stand, Seb could play with King, Corluka or Huddlestone this weekend.

  3. it doesn't even matter. He'll be able to replace king for the Hull game. Smart move by harry

  4. He has been announced to the city as spurs are a PLC. His registration was last night.

  5. Think we have shot ourselves in the foot by confirming the transfer prior to barcodes playing baggies and think he will miss liverpool game for sure

  6. Spurs are looking at the long term. The season is 38 games not just one.

  10. Great swift action by Levy. I like the fact that Bassong can play left back as well as centre back, feature. Good signing all round. Wouldn't be surprised to see pascal or bale leave soon!!

  11. lol lol ok, so blast Levy for long drawn out transfers, blast him again when he moves in quickly on a highly rated and sought after defender? Do you realise how stupid some of you sound? IRRITATING!

  12. Finally, we don't muck about when we sign a player and some are still not happy. I would have been gutted if another club came in and had an offer accepted all because we waited for his suspension to be served. At £8 Million and 30k a week i'm surprised we were able to sign him up without any major competion.... COYS.

"Was this just naivety from the Spurs board, were they unaware of the suspension?" Are you serious ??

  15. What if Man City came in with a silly bid? I dont think we had time to wait to be honest

  16. 8 mil rising to 12 mil. spurs board very silly...look at the facts when he played last season. newcastle were a better team without him.
i beleive there are better centre halfs around for that kind of money.
and if i am right i beleive he got a straight red card which is a 3 game suspension. so he will miss the 1st two games of the season.
i trust in harry and levy very much but when a player like humtelar becomes availible and they made it clear they were interested why wasnt everything in there power done to at least get him to the lane for talks.
another two steps sideways in the signings of crouch and bassong

  18. eh? maybe it's me who's the f@cking idiot, but what does it matter which club he serves the suspension with?

    pointless article.

  19. Above..
what are you on about. Wouldnt you rather have him serve a suspension with Newcatle so that he won't have to miss as many games for us?

  20. ben alfrey is a fkn racist tool that supports man utd. the only thing he likes to do as much as random men, is to write 5hitty, pointless articles.
he only writes them to take the pi55, and then replies back under "anonymous". Above "anonymous" is even agreeing with what the article. Please boycott this website, work it out gents.

  21. Il take this one occasion as I feel the comment above is totally uncalled for. Yes i must be a Man U fan as I have only written 75 posts about the club I have supported for a lot longer than scum like you. Explain how I am racist, I have raised a very good point and write posts in order for other Spurs fans to reply their opinions and what they think. Its great how much you seem to know about me, I don't comment on my own article agreeing, that's for the other fans to do. Your obviously not a Spurs fan. Just leave, taking out time to try and 'boycott' a Spurs fan blog, sad really isn't it? Your not welcome on the right side of North London, stay of the site you pointless waste of space
