Who would be in your first XI against Liverpool?

The season is just a couple of weeks away and with Peter Crouch looking to be one of our final signings for the summer (bar possibly a centre back) and dreams of Huntelaar remaining just that, dreams, who would you start against Liverpool on the 16th August?

In the current predicament my starting eleven would be the following: standard 4-4-2

GK-Gomes: No need to explain why, showed brilliant character to turn around his season

LB-Ekotto: Grabbed his chance in the first team with two hands when given, and we can win games when he plays.

CB's- Chimbonda and Corluka: A big talking point but if Chimbonda can reincarnate the formed he showed a few seasons back I think we should give him a go, I mean it is for only one game, isn't it?

RB- Hutton: Still unsure of Naughton and throwing him in the deep end against a team fighting for the league might be pushing him a bit at this stage of the season

LW- Keane: It may seem strange but he usually drops deep and I believe he could do a job out on the left. He works well as a playmaker.

CM's- Modric and Palacios: Unquestionable, both had good seasons last year

RM- Lennon: Need I explain?

ST's- Defoe and Crouch: I thoroughly hope this works and they can rekindle the partnership they had at Pompey. I will put my faith in Crouch.

  6. We can't play 3 strikers and two attacking mids against Liverpool, we'll get murdered!

I've got King in there - hasn't kicked a ball in pre-season, but then again he never does train...

I'd sell Hutton before the start of the season and chuck Naughton in there.

    Gomes

    Lennon Palacios Jenas Modric

    Crouch Defoe

Subs: Cudicini, Chimbonda, McNaughton, Bentley, Hudds, Keane, Pav

I know some players are unfit or not at spurs yet, but with the talent we have I cant help but think that this would be spurs ultimate formation

    ReplyDelete
  30. It is time that Bale is given the chance he deserves. He previously showed so much talent. His passing and penalty taking were before his injury were not surpassed by any other spurs player.Jol recognises this and spurs would be crazy to let Bale leave. His potential is huge.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think its save to say that Pav is 4th choice! He aint got a hope in hells chace of making the subs bench let alone the starting 11

at rightback, i would say Hutton, but I don't believe hi will be with spurs at the start of the season.... IF King and/or Woddy is fit they will OBVIOUSLY be CBs... and Corluca would move out right..and Hudd of the pitch... and FOR GOD SAKE GIVE GIO A CHANCE....

  36. I think 9 out of 10 (allmost) has included GIOVANI in their team... I realy hope Harry reads this. It's a shame he never got a chance. Brilliant footballer, with huge potential.

    Are you on glue?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm going to try and be realistic, Dos Santos will not start. I'll be surprised if he starts on the left at all this season.
Harry prefers BAE over Bale, so he'll start over Bale if he's match fit.
Unless we don't buy a left winger, Modric will start there, just like he did last season.
I think Crouch will only get a half or 50/60 mins as he'll still be blending into the squad, and Keane will want some time on the pitch to prove himself. I'd also like to see Livermore on the bench, he'll be full of confidence.

    Gomes
Naughton-Chimbonda-Charlie-BAE (fit CB instead of Chimbonda)
    Lennon-Jenas-Wilson-Modric
    Crouch-Defoe

p.s.Has anyone else noticed, Cudicini has had more playing time than Gomes in the pre-season games, and has conceded less!?

To come on: Defoe for Keane or Modric & Crouchy for Pav

but in fairness look who Cudicini has played against compared to Gomes. And i saw Cudicini in the match away to Bournemouth and he looked indecisive and past his best.

  46. first of all keane has been terrible all pre season hes a joke so the team has to be:
    gomes
    naughton reli impressed with him
    corluka

    ekotto
    lennon
    palacios
and to be fair i wud play livermore he is much better than jenas

  47. i'm gonna shock most
    Gomes
    Naughton Corluka Chimbonda Assou-Ekotto
Lennon Palacios Modic GIOVANNI DOS SANTOS

Why does anyone wanted to give dos santos a game his superb

    ReplyDelete
  48. Why would anyone play Chimbonda??

    ReplyDelete
  49. anon 14:18
Very true, I've only managed to watch a couple of games and that was on shoddy internet sites, so I couldn't really comment. I was just wondering whether there was a reason why Gomes wasn't even getting any game-time for the first ..3/4 games?

And thanks 'InsideN17'. I guess if I was in charge it wouldn't be my first eleven either, but I'm not sure putting Keane on the left would be worth risking against Liverpool. Maybe give it a go the weeks after with Hull, West Ham and Birmingham. If it goes well, stick with it against Man U and Chelsea.
Or try Dos Santos on the left against those three and see how Keane plays in an attacking midfield position.

    ReplyDelete
  50. As much as I'd love to see Giovani (one n) start or play in 2nd half, because he has the quality, I doubt Harry even bothered to watch him at Gold Cup. I don't think Crouch will be the end of our signings and expect a few more departures (Keane, ideally).

Crouch + Defoe up front, or if one isn't fit, Pavlyuchenko, otherwise subbed in.

    L Modric Palacios ????? Lennon R

Would love to see a CM worthy of that midfield trio. Can't we clone Modric? Knowing Hary, it'll be Mr. Anon aka JJ.

Assou-Ekotto ??????????????????? Corluka/Hutton/Naughton (also impressed with him...seems to be an improvement on Gunter)

No Chimbondar and Chuck as center backs, please. Hopefully 2 of King, Woodgate and Dawson will be fit to start, or we sign someone that's closer to their quality.

  57. Spurs haven't got a chance in hell. 4 useless front men Lennon, defoe, Keane and now believe it or not Crouch who's eye sight lets him down when shooting for goal.
Lennon all the tricks in the world, passes and shoots into the stand. Defoe & Keane you saw how bad they are at Wembley.
Try Santos, Roman & Bentley, with Lennon, Keane, Defoe and Crouch who is going to take the free kicks. I have been watching Spurs since 1958, this must be the worse front men we have had.
Not one of them could match Chivers, White, Greaves, Dyson, Harmer etc.,etc.. I think it is time to become a Gillingham supporter.

    my first 11 will be

Gomes, corluka woodgate king ekotto, palacios huddlestone, modric, dos santos, crouch, lennon.

On the bench: Cudicini,Dawson, Bale, O`Har Defoe, Jenas, Pavlyuchencko

For the liverpool game with the players that are fit at the moment i`d start with
    gomes, ekotto, HUDDLESTONE, corluka, chimbonda

    Palacios, O`hara, Modric
